Every party needs an entertainer, and occasionally it’s your turn.

Think I mentioned this once before, but at the grocery a year back, an older guy pulled in next to me in a really sexy Porsche. As he got out I said “My daughters have asked me how come the best cars are driven by old guys”. Without a second of hesitation: “You tell them I would trade this car...

And yet, as the story goes, go back enough generations and you get to two. So unless dating primates, there were some close encounters.

NFR Has anyone heard from Old Man Jim? Update: RIP OMJ. Give ‘em hell wherever you are!

He was a bonafide legend. I only came close to meeting him in person once, but I did converse with him here on occasion. Many memorable group conversations but what stands out were pics of him napping “on the rocks” on a Skagit bar. I miss him too.

Let’s start a trout spey thread

Sold my heavy artillery (for winter SH), however I acquired a Winston MS 4wt several years back and absolutely love it. Fairly slow by some standards but then so am I. (I prefer “relaxed”:-)). I enjoy singlehanding with an Epic 686 with a (235 gr) Commando Smooth, and a Morgan 7wt (UwU) with a...

FS A Couple of nice glass rods for sale

I’ve grown my stable carefully over the years and sometimes have difficulty selecting what to use here, or there. (Yes, it is a good problem to have.) That said, I have no doubts about the age old question: “If I could have only one rod”. Hands down it’s the Epic 686. Very versatile and so much...

    New Asquith

I truly wanted to embrace bamboo, but couldn’t quite justify it. Probably (partially) because it seems like an “all or nothing” mentality. I truly believe in the ideal of bamboo, but for me I tried to factor in practicality. In short, modern fiberglass won, given all factors.

    New Asquith

A year plus back I backed out of a Brackett bamboo, not because I couldn’t afford it, but because I realized I have enough fun with modern fiberglass, along with a mix of a few graphite rods for when speed counts. I could easily afford the Asquith (or any boo probably) and might enjoy any...

    New Asquith

Sounds like maybe they’re targeting the streamer guys. Kinda funny since that genre historically were from the bubba end of the spectrum. But times change. Unless I’m on the Sound I’ll stick with my 686 for that (@ 1/3 the price).

    Bread Thread

I used to make bread by hand (+-1980) but stopped. For 20 years or so I’ve been using a bread machine and have a couple favorites, mainly honey wheat. I love the simplicity. I recently bought some starter (& setup) and tried some sourdough recipes. I’ve learned that bread machines don’t do...

    Icon lost

I was just a casual fan through the 60s and 70s. But then while working in North SF Bay a buddy (Deadhead) had scored tickets for all 3 or 4 nights of their last appearance at Winterland. I was invited one night, and I’ll never forget it. Among probably the most dedicated of the dedicated, I was...

    New Asquith

Probably obvious to many, but I’d suggest instead, watching here and there for a used but well cared for standout rod from 3 years or so ago, let’s say for $350, and put $1,400 into solid stocks or a Vanguard fund. You still get a fantastic rod, and contribute to the nest egg. Fact is I do like...

    New Asquith

Well, taken care of it will give you more pleasure for a much longer time than a similar worth of drugs. I would imagine it throws a good line well. On the fence? Go for it.

Just imagine the (long arm) pics with it in your teeth, or balanced on your shoulders. Yep, we’re dating super models now. The initial price will be cheap by comparison.

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

Somewhat related, I was playing golf at a local club here in Seattle, having taken the afternoon off, and met an older guy (John) on the first tee. Walking up the fairway he said “Just so you know, they have a defibrillator in the pro shop”. Good to know (I’m thinking). A hole or two later we’re...

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

Total sidebar, and I’m sure some can echo: To my girls: Pay extra attention to the bad guy. If you want to hate him, he did his job well. None of these guys are evil in real life. Most are the nicest guys you’d ever meet. Example Danny Trajo: Machete, but gentle as a lamb in real life. Related...

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

Obviously it has become a (cult?) XMas classic. I did read somewhere that the initial story was rejected (by the money I presume) so the re-write was centered on the Christmas season. The debate continues, but it’s trivial at best. I will say this, and I’m sure nearly everyone here will agree...
