I once made a trip to Lake Roosevelt. Looking for walleye, trout and smallmouths. Got the boat in, and started to rig fly rods and....no reels. I had left the bag with the reels sitting in the hallway 4 hours away. Easy to do.

I fish nearby where you will be at. I use a weighted crab type fly (or something like a shad jig) and work the outflows where the return flows breach the sand bar. Bring a stripping basket. And I use a high density line as it feels easier to control in the surf.

I fished at Sprit Lake once in 1976, late summer. What was amazing to me was the amount of floating pumice in the lake. Nice rainbows.

I'm happy to see this post again. One of my favorites.
