    the hole size is 1 3/8" dia. and when i spotted the jay or jays it appeared that they were trying to get their beaks in and raid the nest. havent seen little ones since.

    i hooked a few trees back up the 'rivers' :) we didnt use poppers, but it seemed most well placed shots up the rivers, got a response. usually only one or two, and then no more, and had to back out to find the next place. i was thinking i might have done better with a 7' rod in there.

    you guys got me going into the 'way back' machine. when i was teen, pre-teen, we hiked into cascade lakes with the real one person navy surplus rafts. we had ping pong like paddles and drug around... who knows what. caught fish, and kept me in the game.

    maybe 3 mornings out of 6, we were in the midst of very large numbers of feeding fish, with birds all over the place. it seemed to be a challenge to crack the code, and get them to bite. - my dumb thinking is/was that they dont get that big and many by being too picky with what they are eating...
