    The good boat deal thread

So cool! Heres the boat for thread context: Really similar to my key west 1520 CC that I just sold, I think it would be an awesome PS fly fishing platform

    Boat Positioning for SRC

I’ll add another question to the thread then, favorite anchor style for this sort of fishing? Assuming 16-18’ boat, mixed rock bottom. Fluke/danforth?

    Boat Positioning for SRC

Curious to hear from those chasing beach-oriented SRC from boats. Is the spot-lock trolling motor the only practical way to effectively position a boat for these fish? Are you ever able to just drift at an appropriate pace/distance to cast? Do you ever anchor/stake out at a point or creek mouth...

What have you done for your boat lately?

I sold it! Owned it for 3 years, great first boat down here in the SC Lowcountry. Did a full rewire, trolling motor setup, lots of trailer work, in addition to the typical annual maintenance stuff. Learned a bunch and it put me on my fair share of fish. Although mostly used solo, my last...

As the weather starts to improve, who is daydreaming about fishing‽

Here in the Lowcountry, we are lucky to continue fishing through the winter in relatively mild weather. The redfish school up and leave the summertime grass flats for low tide oyster bars. The water clears, fish are spookier and less aggressive to feed, but the change up is welcome after a hot...

    Launching at Cornet Bay

Following, also curious. Like everything with small boats, probably depends almost entirely on tide direction x wind direction.

    2026 goals- Fishy edition

Fish as much as I can before I become a father this spring. Then learn time management.

The family man seeks to sneak in mornings to fish in the Keys

Just did this on a long weekend in October. Buddy and I did one morning DIY, then a half day guided. DIY day we waded Bahia Honda, saw no target species but picked up a couple snapper blind casting into the trenches/ledges. On the guided trip our guide spent the vast majority of the time...

    Looking at Drift Boats

Man, I just think at that price you could put that $$$ towards something better suited for the lakes and protected bays closer to you on Whidbey- even if it’s not your dream whaler yet. Some kind of deep v aluminum boat that you could throw a real outboard on.

    Classic reel recommendations (3/4wt)

Thread update- I made my choice. Found this original Colorado 1 on the big auction site and scooped it up near original MSRP (from 20+ yrs ago). During my research I found the original catalogue and saw this reel was offered with heavier springs for stronger click. A quick email out to Ross and...

What have you done for your boat lately?

Yup, cable + turnbuckle attaches to pad eye on rear deck of boat when used as poling platform for complete stability

What have you done for your boat lately?

I think it could be helpful depending on the variables. Mine tucks away pretty nicely when not in use despite my boat having a center console layout. It could even be used as a stable bench/seat/workspace.

What have you done for your boat lately?

Yup, fair enough. I’ve yet to take a tumble, but I’m generally the one in control of the boat when I’m on the platform, so I can anticipate my boat’s movement and balance accordingly. That said, I step off if there is any chop/wake greater than a couple inches.

What have you done for your boat lately?

Here’s something I did for my boat 2 years ago that deserves some attention- poling/casting/sighting platform: My Craigslist CC came to me without a poling platform. I wanted to build something cheap to help me decide if I should commit to getting a real poling platform fabricated ($$$)...

    Looking at Drift Boats

Personally, I would be most motivated to save up for and purchase whatever craft I could effectively launch and manage by myself. For me, fishing is a solo endeavor 75% of the time. I bought my first boat a couple years ago, and this was my first priority when considering my options. I’ve been...

Great "Where were you fishing" Response

I work in healthcare with geriatric patients, they like to see my “fish pics” after every weekend. These fellas aren’t ever fishing again, but my response is always the same- “if I told ya, I’d have to kill ya”
