    Wallowa Lake question.

It was decades ago when I fished the inlet and the shoreline east of the store. I did quite well with elk hair caddis. But like I said, this was decades ago. I do know they still plant it. I'd give it a try.

    Metolius River hints?

During all the decades I fished the river, it was never, ever too high to fish. It's a true spring creek that flows out of the ground.

    Metolius River hints?

Usually, the smaller the target nymph pattern, the better. I always use two when I fish the Met. The lower nymph is usually a heavy weighted golden stonefly pattern. The target (upper) nymph is usually in the 16-18 size and tied with a bit of sparkle ... like a Sparkle Pupa.

    Wretched Mess in West Yellowstone

They've been mentioning the event in the Blue Ribbon Flies newsletter but I didn't know it was such a big deal until the last issue of the newsletter.... otherwise I would have mentioned it sooner.

    Wretched Mess in West Yellowstone

If you happen to be in West Yellowstone on the 5th or 6th of Sept, you may want to check this out: https://www.wretchedmessfest.com/ This only the second one they've held so it's bound to grow in the future. I'd go if it was so far away.

    Hostile Fisheries

I didn't know East has fallen from grace. I haven't fished it for years and years. Westfly and the local fly club outings up there were a hoot. I remember one when Bob Borden's son hooked a fish and an osprey came down and grabbed it while it was hooked and tried to fly off...

    Hostile Fisheries

If you're a dry fly or die kind'a fly angler, the Met is not your friend. I learned nymph fishing on the Met so I get along quite fine with the river.

    Hostile Fisheries

In the 50 some odd years I've been fly fishing, there's really only one fishery that hates me with a passion. It's Crane Prairie Reservoir in Oregon. At one time or another, all my fishing buddies have caught some very large rainbows at the place but not me. I don't get it. I use the...

    Favorite hopper pattern?

I tried a lot of different hoppers while fishing YNP and the one that worked the best was a bit of a shocker. A Joe's Hopper worked when the others did not. A plain old ordinary Joe's Hopper was the ticket and it is now what I use for all my hopper fishing.

    Diamond Lake Patterns?

A friend is headed to Diamond Lake (OR) in a few weeks and will be taking his fly gear. I've never fished Diamond so I have no idea what patterns work. I told him I'd tie him some flies for his trip if I found out what I should tie .... thus, I'm trying to figure out what I should tie.

Bend Oregon / Cascade Lakes area

Good grief. The Fall is normally the best time (it can change from year to year) to fish Crane, Lava, Little Lava, Hosmer, Wick, Gold, East and Davis (if there's any water).

    Float trip heat

For our trip to Baja we wore PFG shirts and pants and boy am I glad we did. We had to stop each day by noon because it became too hot. Otherwise, what you have lined up is very close to our approach. I still use the PFG shirts during hot days in the PNW.

Why do killer whales keep handing us fish?

Sheeesh. I don't think Flipper ever offered fish to his human buddies. I haven't heard of Orcas attacking humans as do sharks. There is no way I'd accept a fish gift from a shark..... (or a bear, mountain lion, rattle snake and especially a tick)
