IMO having a rule that you can't even have a gas outboard on your boat is just stupid. As an example, my 1650 Lund has a 75 hp four stroke. I can fully run that boat around on my 80# trolling motor. But no freaking way I can just take off the outboard.

It all depends on current and wind but spot lock uses a lot of battery power. IMO 12v trollers are for minimal use and stuff like a pontoon. A boat of any size (say 16ft) needs 24v.

I am not overthinking this in the least. I merely responded to the quote from the Dakota brochure that was posted. They said "so don't forget to fully charge your batteries every two months during the offseason." I don't think its an issue either. But apparently Dakota does??

The only issue with this fully charging every two months is that some of us may be away from a set of batteries for several months at a time.

Now if your sound water is more acidic that would certainly make an impact.

This makes no sense. As a chemical engineer, corrosion is accelerated by temperature. Colder water and salt should have less affect than warm saltwater. Not saying that this hasn't happened. But that there is something else going on. Perhaps its just the temperature and nothing to do with salinity?
