Honest, I think it's gonna flop economically here. As @VMP pointed out, too many restrictions both financially and politically. Will it still be a PITA for those of us who live and work in the area and need to get around for our dailies ? Yeah, probably.

No argument there. My normal route before I started using more of 80 than 90 was over to Minnesota and Wisconsin then south through Chicago to 80 and then east. I just don't recall seeing any inspection points past the locations I mentioned

There's some ecological damage, too . Apparently some of that stuff leaking into a drainage ditch and is headed for the river.

Also, if you're taking 90 to the east coast, AIS inspections seem to stop as soon as you arrive in Illinois. I don't recall seeing one after the border, or in Indiana, Ohio, or Penna

They're almost all co-located with rest stops, and are usually staggered , not directly across the road from each other.
