NFR Les Schwab is 💩 Now

Les died, soon after his wife Dot died, without time enough to set up the transition. Their children did a piss poor job of continuing what Les had established... which was always high priced, but the service was so good you could talk yourself into thinking it was worth it. The kids have sold...

    SFR Yeti skillet

I have several lodge pans, and if you cook on them and use a stainless spatula, in a couple years they are as smooth as any other. No need to sand, just use it. The Finex stuff is interesting to me and I would pay the extra being made here, if I needed one. Everything Yeti is suspect, as last...

    Coldwater closed

If it's been closed for two years, I and a lot of others have been breaking the law. Most of the monument and the national forest have no bathrooms, and are not closed, so I don't think it makes any sense to close coldwater for that reason. It seems like an excuse, and they probably are trying...

    Need some ideas

The road closure to mount saint helens won't impact any where you could camp. That is a dead end road to a no camping area. I believe you can get to Coldwater lake still. There are several lakes around Mount Adams that fish well and you should be able to find camping somewhere even if the...

Preventing theft while camping, is it a big issue?

Just get one of those cardboard man sized targets, make some nice tight groups in it - head, and heart. Lean that up against a tree in your campsite. Only time I have been ripped off was at night at a southwest WA lake that has a hex hatch. When I got back to my truck someone had thrown a rock...

Rust on a galvanized trailer (repainting?)

The best rust converter I have found is Ospho, theres a couple places to get it here... Wilco, and Cost Less Auto parts. Another alternative might be to check at a trailer specialist like Potter Webster for a like size fender and bolt a new one on.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

So they are hazardous waste? Maybe we can get superfund money to remove them.

    Little Update

Good for you, to catch this and deal with it. My mom had type 2, and lived to a ripe old age of 92. She took it serious and took really good care of herself. I hope you will also, much more life to enjoy ahead.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

The sea lions in the Columbia are all males. We could cull to our hearts content without affecting the species future. It is a choice between species, and as was stated earlier, fish just aren't as cute as a brown eyed mammal.

Recent additions/improvements you've made to your bench

Love that sunset. Reminds me of my mom, who loved to paint skies.

    Float Tube Safety

Anything like that needs to be practiced, in warm water where you can safely play with it. I guarantee it will be clumsier than it looks. The center of mass is going to shift forward which may tip the boat forward making it tricky to slide into the seat. I did a Canoe/kayak rescue class that...

    Float Tube Safety

That's really a good idea. Keep something like that rolled up out of the way just in case.

    Float Tube Safety

The real danger, in my opinion, is the amphibious tanker seeking firefighting fluid. Of course they don't use lakes that are known to have logs rocket out of the water, so....

    An incredible opportunity and fishing

If a person wants to keep his land to himself I get that. But why should he be allowed to sell access to a public resource (the wildlife). The advertising clearly makes that out to be the attraction.

NFR Should I disconnect a car battery if it’s not going to be used?

I'd just put the trickle charger on. If you disconnect the battery, you are going to have to reset the clock, perhaps lose all the radio presets as well. Disconnecting at the negative terminal prevents accidentally arcing from the (positive) battery post to ANYTHING metal around it, and is...
