Swinging for shad in Sammamish Slough would be an experience. Caught 15 shad and one human body today!

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

I've heard the social media rumors that sea lions are feeding on smolt releases, but I haven't seen any evidence. Could you please share that?

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

NMFS decides those numbers, as is required under the amendment to the MMPA passed by Congress in 2018. They actually set the limits higher than many of us were expecting.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

Seeing as the state has no legal way to do that, and (again) they are already killing hundreds of them, opening a hunting season is not going to happen.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

As previously stated, the states and tribes are killing hundreds of sea lions. I even shared a document that goes into great detail about the problem and the actions being taken. You don't need to continue making the same statement - your opinion has been heard.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

California Sea Lions have always been present in the Columbia River. Also, Gray Wolves have always lived in the United States.

They are already killing them. Hundreds of them.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

That really depends on what your definition of "getting rid of them" is.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

In the case of the sea lions in the Columbia System, there is no population level threat to the species by killing them. Leaving them there does present population level threats to many ESL listed salmon populations. The underlying cause of the sea lions increasingly using the Columbia for...

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

I know. I'm a party pooper. Here's some information that people may find interesting: https://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/SeaLion/docs/Columbia%20River%20Basin%202022%20Section%20120(f)%20Sea%20Lion%20Management%20Report.pdf

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

So I lobbied Congress to help pass the MMPA exemption that allows WDFW, ODFW, and several tribes to lethally remove sea lions. They are killing sea lions. Social media has exploded with a lot of rumors and outright false information about what is being done. The pinniped problem is real, and...

    TU on Euro Nymphing

It is an interesting discussion, but it really doesn't matter. Fish as many different types of flies as you can. Whether those flies have "soul" is completely subjective. This seems like a silly "I'm cooler than you because my flies have SOUL" type argument.

Sage Salt R8 First Casting Session

I'm back from my trip, and wanted to provide a follow up. The Salt R8 is a really fun rod to fish. It handles fish really well, and it truly shines when casting at the most common "fishing distances," meaning 60 feet or less. I could always feel the cast when fishing close - even with 10' or...

    Any Panhandlers here?

There are a lot of complexities when looking at the economics. I remember an article that explained it better with good citations, but I haven't been able to locate it. Here's an ok explanation of some of the finances...

    Any Panhandlers here?

There are a few people who fully believe they can make eastern Washington part of Idaho here in Moses Lake. They do get a lot quieter when you ask them how Idaho would be able to pay for the land they would be acquiring. The value of the land is far greater than Idaho's state budget.
