    Got any bird pics?

We have lived in our house for 48 years and this year is the first time we have had Steller's Jays nest in the neighborhood. They have always been transitory, passing thru in spring and fall or occasionally overwintering. Another thru the window shot…..

    NFR Rats.... @#$%ing rats.

For mole and gopher control I find highway flares to be very effective. Open a mound or tunnel, pop in an ignited flare and push dirt around it to seal the tunnel. A flare burning for 10-20 minutes floods the tunnel system with toxic gasses. One application is good for the season at Kilchis...

    Damsels and Dragons

Today a male Cardinal Meadowhawk visited my deck and spent half an hour chasing insects until the neighbor's cottonwood began filling the air with fluff. The Meadowhawk made a half-dozen sorties after tiny bits of floating cotton, then left to find a less fluffy and confusing hunting ground.

    NFR Rats.... @#$%ing rats.

At one point our house was completely surrounded by dog owners, all of whom kept a bowl of kibble outside in case Fido got hungry. The neighborhood was a cafeteria for rats, skunks, possums and raccoons. When the fall rains came all the rodents began house hunting. It was nasty. I...

65 years ago I used to see that log from the house I lived in during summers. Put a size 6 muddler right there, and there.

This is a seed head on a northwest native “weed,” Geum macrophyllum, aka Large-leaf aven. (I never heard of it either, until I keyed it out.). Think of a 15-inch tall buttercup. This seed head is about the size of a pea. This is the plant.

    The Ohuhu stove

Ive, if you want a faster start with pellets, consider adding this to one of your butane canisters. You will have your fire near instantly. Besides, everybody needs a blowtorch, right?

Help me extend my seat base (make it taller)

Because I'm simple minded I would first try to find a suitable pipe to insert all the way to the bottom of the existing riser, leaving your 6 inches of additional height sticking out. If that proved to be acceptable, a pair of cross bolts at right angles should secure it in place. Pieces of...

    NFR Cougars

I have been fortunate enough to see one whole cat and most of two others in the wild. In 2022 I packed a float tube into a small hike-in lake. While I was on the water a cat took down a deer about a hundred yards back from shore. It was an unpleasant thing to listen to - deer can scream in...

    Re-soling felt wading boots

Yup. Barge in the yellow tube is/was contact cement. As I recall, the process was schmear it onto both surfaces, let it skin over and then put the two pieces together being sure things are lined up properly first. It's been over a decade since my last repair job.

    Re-soling felt wading boots

I used Barge Cement to refelt a couple of pairs of boots, and the bond outlasted the felts. About 55 years ago I used Barge to attach pieces of kitchen carpet to a $4 pair of surplus Nam boots. That worked too.
