    Native Brook Trout

As a kid, growing up in PA, it was the only fish available in our local creeks within bike distance. It was a special time in the fall when the stocked browns would ascend these little creeks. Can't imagine being tired of catching wild, native, brookies, in favor of pellet fed browns. Live...

    Decades on the Firehole

God, how I miss fishing that stream. Those chocolate colored browns that I always thought were unique to that fishery. And yest, the flymph picture encircled here (Hare's ear spider) was the ticket. The last few years the wife and I went the water was already in the 70s in early June...

SFR Mt St Helens - 45 Year Anniversary

I had given up fishing for that year due to very warm surface temps and weeds that were already growing to the surface. Things cooled down, I acquired a face mask, went fishing in <65 degree surface temps, and caught a few fish. Also mad a trip to MT that year and hobbled back home with a...

Please watch The Last 100 Miles

So sad. When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.

    Winthrop Area Spring Fishing

Make sure you have a heavy anchor to hold you down when the wind comes up. The lakes in this area have a bottom structure different from other lakes that only require a 10# anchor. Chironomids have been the staple and the fishermen will tell you where to anchor up. The callibaetis hatch has...

2025 statewide lake opener 4/26 thread... share plans/photos/etc

First time in 50 plus years of living in the NCW I have not even bought a license. Currently fighting a legal battle and extremely stressed out over current political turmoil. I know, go fishing and take your mind over these struggles. It just doesn't work that way. Best of luck to others...

    Rain

First 80 prediction this weekend. Half my yard is already fried and lazy enough to no longer care. Will try to shield a veg./fruit garden where most of the water will go. Time to put an end to all swimming pools and golf courses!

NFR White house wants more children?

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/21/us/politics/trump-birthrate-proposals.html Overpopulation has been at the forefront of most if not all of the problems facing society. Resource exhaustion is at the top of the list with many more to follow. Encouraging more to this equation seems like adding...

When life throws you a curve ball

Sounds like early detection to the rescue as is the case in a lot of cancers. Both my wife and I are alive because of early detection. Prayers for near future remission and "NO" signs of recurrence!

    Throat Pump Question.....

I have developed (probably copied from some article) a daphnia fly that works, "sometimes", quite well, early in the season if (as stated earlier) you can find the concentrated areas. A large, olive, leech pattern, dotted with bright orange paint throughout the body and extended strands...
