Is this good or bad? I thought hatchery caused weakening of the wild genetic strain? A hatchery can support a sport fishery but if zero take is instituted and the wild fish can thrive will that be the ultimate outcome? I read some pluses and minuses on hatchery but don't know the real science.

The only reason I use braid is first that's what I have. Second I can tighten until it bites nicely into the coating and can be cut nicely flush. then the epoxy holds and seals everything so water does not get into the dacron core and smooths the knot so it runs through the guides.

When doing this I just make a loop and then nail knot with braid then coat with UV epoxy. It is clean that way and goes through the guides.

I have great memories on the Firehole. It's where I took my 3y/o daughter to learn to fly fish. Waters are shallow perfect for a 3ft tall kid in little kiddie waders. In a few years she was tying her own flies and still holes our family record on the gibbon.
