Its been wet and windy in the Bay the yesterday. Roads were flooded and impassable last night but it quickly dropped as the tide went out. Wind this afternoon going to be crazy. But hopefully back after dem reds tomorrow.

Ok then please tell me where I am amiss? My point was just that a river guide has a less expensive day on the water than a flats guide. And years ago that was pretty well reflected in the going rates. But those rates have gotten pretty close anymore. I know what it costs to go fishing for a day...

February can be really really tough. Or it can be really good. All depends on the weather at the time. Hit a cold front with 20+ N winds and its hard. But hit it right before or 2 days after the front and it can be superb.

Not sure what your point is but to answer I make zero. Have never made a dime off of fishing in my life. But I have fished off of flats skiffs for almost 50 years and have owned one for over 10. I have fished rivers out of drift boats for longer than that. It costs way more to run a guided day...

FWIW when I went to the Seychelles a couple of years ago the official position of Fly Castaway was to just leave factory loops alone. They used to cut them all off but decided that was no longer the way to go.

Just remember that a hosted trip (even though the cost is the same for you) the hosts trip is usually free or at least greatly discounted. Take that into account when you get their advice. Still valuable input for sure just temper what you hear a bit. Just like taking rod advice from a pro staffer.

I'd ask the starting question. Why are you using 7x in the first place and especially 7x fluorocarbon?? I have never used anything smaller than 6X and that only for small dry flies. If I am fishing small dries i don't use fluoro in the first place because it sinks which can be counterproductive...

I'd rather watch paint dry than the NBA at least until March. They play almost no defense till they get to the post season. And boring? Can't stand a game where the last 3 minutes of time actually take a half hour of real time between the fouls and timeouts.....lol
