Anyone using a shallow water pole anchor?

I have a power pole on my skiff. Had one on my last skiff and two on my bay boat. Terrific piece of fishing equipment. A buddy has the manual pole. I find it useless. Its in the way if you leave it in the holder (sticks up too far) and if its not already in the holder getting it out and using...

    lithium battery questions

Just don't turn your trolling motor to full power. They all have increments or notches for some indication of power level. Not like you need to keep checking it. Go Li and you'll never look back. Check out Li Time!

    RIP Cathy Beck

Two of the most well known flyfisher/photographers/travel hosts (for Frontiers) in the fishing world. Hard to imagine not having heard of them .....unless you just are fortunate enough to spend all your time on the water instead of reading about it in the office.....lol So sad but she died...

    Five stages of fishing

The problem is that they are quite mingled especially the "master" stage. And that stage is utterly dumb anyways. I actually feel sorry for guys who say the just want to go fishing and don't care about catching anything. I get you can enjoy a day on the water without catching the fish. Lord...

    Run Etiquette

Man I am so happy to not have to fish for those things. Shame they are such a cool fish in cool country but life is to short to have to even have this discussion. Can't imagine if this was what I'd have to deal with on a daily basis. Kudos to ya'll. Sounds like you by and large deal with it ok.

Just the Facts - Redfish Report

Ok then please tell me where I am amiss? My point was just that a river guide has a less expensive day on the water than a flats guide. And years ago that was pretty well reflected in the going rates. But those rates have gotten pretty close anymore. I know what it costs to go fishing for a day...

Just the Facts - Redfish Report

February can be really really tough. Or it can be really good. All depends on the weather at the time. Hit a cold front with 20+ N winds and its hard. But hit it right before or 2 days after the front and it can be superb.

Just the Facts - Redfish Report

Not sure what your point is but to answer I make zero. Have never made a dime off of fishing in my life. But I have fished off of flats skiffs for almost 50 years and have owned one for over 10. I have fished rivers out of drift boats for longer than that. It costs way more to run a guided day...

    Factory Loops?

FWIW when I went to the Seychelles a couple of years ago the official position of Fly Castaway was to just leave factory loops alone. They used to cut them all off but decided that was no longer the way to go.

Just the Facts - Redfish Report

Typical guide mantra. You should hear the comments floating (pun intended) around the Henry's Fork and South Fork of the Snake in the summer. If guides had their way they would have rec boaters outlawed. Crazy how they think they have some special right to earn a living off of a public...

My day in day out setups: 9wt with a good sized crab (1/0 or 2/0) 10wt with a big Puglisi baitfish (3/0)

Just the Facts - Redfish Report

Have been down for 6 weeks so thought I'd post up how my season has gone so far. No adjectives. Just numbers. Ya'll can decide for yourselves how you'd rate that. Trips - 15 Fish Landed - 20 (only fish I landed are counted here....if others guys were with me they have had similar numbers). a...

    Christmas island recommendations?

Just remember that a hosted trip (even though the cost is the same for you) the hosts trip is usually free or at least greatly discounted. Take that into account when you get their advice. Still valuable input for sure just temper what you hear a bit. Just like taking rod advice from a pro staffer.

    Best Fluorocarbon 7x tippet

Ok I have fished Silver Creek, Harriman Ranch, DePuys, Armstrongs etc and have never even though about 7x.

    Best Fluorocarbon 7x tippet

I'd ask the starting question. Why are you using 7x in the first place and especially 7x fluorocarbon?? I have never used anything smaller than 6X and that only for small dry flies. If I am fishing small dries i don't use fluoro in the first place because it sinks which can be counterproductive...

    NBA..

I'd rather watch paint dry than the NBA at least until March. They play almost no defense till they get to the post season. And boring? Can't stand a game where the last 3 minutes of time actually take a half hour of real time between the fouls and timeouts.....lol

    Experience as a guide?

This is just simply not correct. The costs of getting equipment and maintaining it is well covered compared to the daily rate guides charge these days. Not even including tips. The only reason they can't make a good enough living is they don't sell enough trips. I have extensive data, for...
