    Fly Fishing Elitism?

Not to mention the sticklebacks introduced by some live bait slinger. I have been in the little D where I couldn’t even see the bottom through all the sticklebacks.

    Fly Fishing Elitism?

The big D in Oregon doesn’t allow fishing from a boat, not to bar people from fishing but to allow a certain portion of the fish to be untouchable by way of making them hard to access. It is much easier to dredge the bottom with spinning gear than fly gear, so from that perspective it seems not...

    AI - spot AI

I'm doing PT with one of those smart young people, and I brought up my perception of the evils of AI. He said he used it all the time, to help with writing and research. I asked if he thought it could help me condense the building codes for the shop I want to build, and he said that is the...

    Edge Fly Rods mini review

I hope they get it together too. the recent stuff they have been offering is tempting, and I like the rods I have. I drew a line in the sand and I contacted them and told them they would get no more of my cash until I had received everything I have already paid for. I'm still lacking two...

    NFR Finally making the plunge!

The map program that comes on an apple phone works just fine. I will not personally allow any google software on my phone because of the level of tracking they do seems an invasion of privacy. As to the scammers, about ten years ago we switched from Verizon to tmobile and close to 100% of the...

    Stay safe

Nothing funny about this. How in the hell can anyone expect us to believe that he was mistaken for a squirrel. At least 200 times larger than the biggest squirrel I'ver ever seen.

    Edge Fly Rods mini review

I have ordered two rods from them, and like I said the first came rather quickly, the second took about eight months. I sent a couple emails asking if there was any news, the replies came slowly, like two to three weeks after my inquiry. When you order one you can create an account, and there...

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

The verpa toxin can be removed by boiling the mushrooms for 15 minutes, with ventilation as the toxin comes out as fumes and is still toxic. After the boil they should be fine for everyone, but as always with wild shrooms, try a bite first and see how you do.

Non-stick vs cast iron vs carbon steel.

I bought four de buyer steel pans a while back, and my take on them is that they take longer to season, and you have to be much more persnickety about anything with acid in it or you will take your seasoning off. Now that I have learned how they need to be treated though, I will have them for...

SFR The Real ID Requirements Are Just Around The Corner

Something to think about when traveling to Canada is that if you are hurt and want to medivac to the US where your insurance works, you will need to have a passport. No passport, no international flight to the US. When we go up there to ski we always take a passport for that reason. We both...

    Talkin Tires at LES SCHWAB

Les died, soon after his wife Dot died. The kids took over, destroyed their reputation for taking care of customers, and sold the business. They are still the most expensive place to buy tires with none of the former reasons to feel good about paying a premium price. I used to be a loyal...

Non-Fly Easiest way to catch trout in rivers

If she can cast fairly reliably, a spinner works great. My experience with a complete newb swinging treble hooks around wildly still gives me the willies. Nymphing under a bobber seems doable. A small lead head jig under a bobber should work too.

    SFR Illegal Dumping

Garbage service should be paid for by taxes so that everyone has it no ifs ands or buts. it costs way more to deal with the illegal dumping than if it happened the right way in the first place. The only people who would be paying more are the dumpers.

    Seattle Orvis Store Closing

I'm not a dyed in the wool Orvis customer either, but last time I was in an Orvis shop it was in Tualatin, and they were going out of business. I looked around and what they did have was nice quality outdoorsy clothing, some gear, and if you needed some leaders or fly dressing, nippers etc...

OSP needs help (fishing closed waters on Walla Walla river)

Looks like a fly line on a spincast reel to me. I wouldn't think that would work well. The rod looks pretty short for two handing like he's doing. The right equipment for lobbing a treble wrapped with pencil lead perhaps?
