    Five stages of fishing

An old buddy of mines favourite saying was, "The best time to go fishing is when you can". I think he pretty much nailed it. All the other noise is just bs as far as I can tell.

    Five stages of fishing

I know a very well known person with no standards who considers himself Yugely elite, just saying.

    Five stages of fishing

I have met many elitists, I have met very few people who are elite. There is a big difference IMO.

    Five stages of fishing

Everybody who chases steel here on Vancouver Island is a master due to very low run size. The rest of the stair thing seems rather elitist to me.

    Depth finder for lakes

I think you guys should stick with your, never fail, budget conscious, string and bolt system. Let me fiddle with my expensive, temperamental, battery sucking, fish finding, chartplotting, map making, temperature telling, electronic goddess : )

    NFR NFL 2023 Season

Please, just one game that has some drama in the 4th quarter. I don't think I am asking for too much.

    Run Etiquette

When I am drifting I will not fish a spot that already is occupied by a shore angler. When I am shore fishing I just go upstream of whom ever is there and fish down to them. If they are parked like a telephone pole, I go around them, leave a respectful distance and resume fishing. Fishing a...

Do you tie with scissors on?

Putting the scissors down all the time gives me a good reason to try and keep the station somewhat tidy. Production tying is never going to be a thing for me.

Things have been bad enough for the past twenty years as a Raiders fan, I don't think I could stomach watching that sanctimonious puke in a Raiders uniform.

    RPL thread colour

I have gotten my hands on a couple of RPL 5wt's. I want to replace a couple of guides and was wondering if anybody knows the thread colour used on the factory made rods. I inquired and was just shown a pic and told it was mahogany brown. I was looking for a brand name and number of the...

    Non-Fly Centerpin Thread

Most BC guys use 10 1/2 to 12 ft rods. I have never seen a fly line used on a centerpin. If you find your mono is dragging you can apply a bit of mucilin to the last 20-30 feet and mend the line during the drift.

    Non-Fly Centerpin Thread

BC steelheader here. Been using centerpin reels for close to 50 years. They are at their best when used for float fishing. Level wind reels are just as good for float fishing but not as fun to use when fighting a fish. Spinning reels are not very useful for float fishing. Float fishing is a...

Walk and Wade salmon net recommendations

No need whatsoever for a net, bring the fish into 6-18 inches of water, grab leader ( don't let go once you have grabbed the leader ) slip out hook, turn fish back into deeper water, some fish can be gently supported by the wrist of the tail while they recuperate, repeat. Don't remove the fish...
