Kalama river... Where are the trout?

So, over two days this weekend, I probably fished well over a dozen holes between the Modrow boat launch and the Weyerhauser gate on the Kalama River. On friday I caught 4-5 whitefish up near the gate, that was it. On sunday, not a single damn fish over 8 hours of fishing. Well, i hooked one...

    Tualatin/Gales exploration… Cutthroats!

Most tributaries to the Tualatin, including the mainstem are open year round for trout. Gales is definitely open year round. The coastal streams and some that flow directly into the willamette are closed (except the Tualatin) Yeah, there’s gotta be a way around that gate cause I know there’s...

    Tualatin/Gales exploration… Cutthroats!

So, with the nice weather yesterday and having no rain for a week, I figured the streams on the valley side of the coast range might’ve calmed down. I went out yesterday to explore the headwaters of the Tualatin. I don’t really know anything about that area, but looking at the googles it...

    Cutthroat in columbia...?

Thats not a bad option. Beaver, scappoose, all those small creeks would be good with a few extra hours. I often take my dogs out for long runs on the beaches around kelly point, sauvie island etc, since they're totally empty this time of year. It would be easy to kill a couple hours tossing...

    Cutthroat in columbia...?

Has anyone ever fished the shorelines and beaches along the lower Columbia for cutthroat? Its technically open for hatchery cutthroat until dec31 in oregon and i know washington releases some hatchery cutts in certain tribs of the columbia, so i figured maybe they would work their way down. I...

    Colorful Fall Trout

I'm blown away by the fish up there... between the fire shutdowns and covid, maybe they're getting a chance to grow before the campers swoop them all up with rooster tails and PB... we should probably keep this on the DL...

Two fish, two rivers, two different golden hours... A Redband off the Metolius in the AM and a Clackamas Rainbow in the evening... I'm really happy I picked up fly fishing this year...! ✌️

    Powered Cooler

12v coolers are the only way to go. I use a Whynter 45q in my pickup. It'll run off a 100ah lithium for at least 4 days. add in a couple hundred watts of solar and it'll run the fridge and trickle charge the battery. downside, they're heavy. kind of a set it and forget it scenario. just...
