    SFR 100s that used to be 90s that used to be 80s - - - -

It's much harder to notice, and not a topic I know very well (just like most everyone else on the internet..), but I have heard the real change in the data is that the low nighttime temps are much higher than before. It's easy to notice how hot the day gets, but you might be more surprised to...

MA9 Salmon Season: 3 Days in July?

There are sometimes fish checkers at PNP, marrowstone, and Wilson parking lots. Maybe a couple times per year. Official MA9 beach fishing data does exist, and I am sure WDFW has lots of clarity about how few mature kings are encountered from the beach each year. Bet it's less than some of the...

    Wear your life vest

I have told this story before, but I took a scary unexpected swim in 32F water on a half ice covered pond while fishing when I was about 20-21. Was sitting on my PFD, not wearing it, and was very very lucky to make it to shore. When the canoe went over I wasn't given time to find it or get my...

    Trout snacks

In June, the carpenter ants hatch in some lakes/places. Can be awesome at the right day. That's what those look like to me.

    Non-Fly 2024 Summer Salmon

First day out in the kayak this year. Always nice to be the only kayaker out in the midst of 50+ "real" boats and head home first with a 33" fish on board.

Lake Fishing Etiquette or Lack Thereof

You might be shocked how much space some spastic body tics, talking to yourself about vaccines and aliens, selective disrobing, or repeated sultry winking earn you on a good fishing spot. Very few people want to fish near a man with no pants on.

Which one of you bought this?!

Great feather, and considered absolutely necessary for all fly patterns needed to catch Alabama sturgeon, true Columbia River June Hogs, silver trout, and yellow fin cutthroat trout.

    Survive the Sound 2024

Just drove across the Hood Canal bridge, saw lots of diving birds, and one seal, feeding just on the south side of the bridge Hard not to think of all the smolt tracks trapped on the south side of the bridge and not know exactly what is happening there. Also reminds me of some data I heard...

NFR Possible Lower Latitude Auroras this weekend

Totally agree. The 630 pm decision to pack the wife and kids in the car for an Aurora strike mission to the north was a resounding victory. There was solid traffic on some Port Townsend roads at 1230 am!

NFR Possible Lower Latitude Auroras this weekend

I really didn't expect the radiant point and just the umbrella of light and streaks in all directions around. An umbrella of light.

NFR Possible Lower Latitude Auroras this weekend

No wind at point Wilson and the Salish Sea glows ruby red and green as the water starts to glass off.
