    Prowlers

i don't watch live tv, haven't for a long time. even when i watch sporting events, i typically stream after the game so i can skip ads. tonight i watched the cup final, last two periods, live. god. because i was watching over espn+, all of the ads for were for abc shows. my god, if this is...

    Prowlers

i don't know if that's a good solution or not. the self-righteous-personal-responsibility-thumper in me revolts against the idea. but the pragmatist/analyst in me sees clearly that while we can't eliminate these phenomena, we have created an environment where they are nurtured and fed and we...

Adding backpack straps to a float tube/uboat

i was considering that too - deflating and stitching d-rings approximately where the seat corners are. would narrow them and also the seat would hopefully have a stabilizing effect against the back.

Adding backpack straps to a float tube/uboat

thanks all. i walked into the local thrift store this afternoon and went straight for the sporting goods aisle - bingo, one full sized aluminum framed backpack w/waist strap and back support just like the one pictured here except in green. $9. i brought it home and used the compressor to blow...

Adding backpack straps to a float tube/uboat

Trying to fish further from the road more this year, especially as the water temps rise. So, I dusted off my Creek Company Uboat 2000, and bought some aftermarket backpack straps. This is something I've never done, and while I was able to pull it off this weekend on a hike of about 3 miles...

    Lake Report

i was out there last night from about 6:30, got off the water after dark. took my best fish from the ramp before launching. it swirled 15 feet out as i wheeled the pontoon down and i figured it was one of the 3,000 legals that were milling around the launch at the beginning of this month...

    NFR Twitter

there's a factor this does not seem to capture well, and i only notice because i see npr near the top and center. the factor that's missing might be called "manipulation by omission", or something. i listened to npr pretty much exclusively for news for years leading up to the 2016 election...

except worms are a real meal. fish are apparently smarter than american consumers - they don't swallow when the first bite reveals they've been offered a fake. both offerings have a hook in them, sure, but one is real food, and one isn't. too many of us can't detect the difference any more.

    NFR Twitter

this. and once the social platforms' success in driving traffic/impressions this way became undeniable and unbeatable, the entire media spectrum (including most of the so called alternative sources) signed up for the same business model. we really should see through it, and we really should...

    NFR Twitter

for me there's two interesting things, without which none of the other elements you mention would be extraordinary. 1. free speech. the censorship is applied inconsistently and with bias. 2. driving this from beneath the surface is the reality that our laws don't get enforced upon those in...

    Other Hobbies?

i had to do some googling to id that sitar. i knew i had seen metheny playing one over the years, but did not realize it was a sitar. i just figured it was another iteration of a guitar synth. nice collection and a nice space!

    NFR Ukraine...Little Did I Know

boy rob, you really didn't understand what i was saying. you initially said "the risk of nukes be damned" - which kindof implies you don't care about the risk. then you said the risk would be greater if he gains ukraine. thus, acting now would mitigate, or reduce, the risk of a nuclear...

i guess "the risk of nukes be mitigated" would not have been quite as stylish to say in the first place. ;)

not to them rob. most ordinary people believe that they are right. their group, their family, their politics, their country, their cause, their code, their creed, theology, etc. by sitting on the bema and prounouncing that you r e a l l y r e a l l y know better, you're only doing the same...
