    SFR New USGS Graph Gripe

Here in the Great Lakes we use turbidity a lot be ause of how muddy our rivers can get. Turbidity value of 11 or less gives us at least 8” of visibility, which is pretty fishable swinging larger flies.

    Quiet wind/rain jacket

I am not sure of the new Simms Bulkley jackets but mine is a great insulated raincoat with a soft exterior shell. Not particularly noisy when raining and really warm for winter fishing.

NFR: Age Test - Folger's Crystals

My parents grew up on coffee farms in the 30’s and 40’s. I just videoed an interview with my Dad about life on a coffee farm. When they moved to the Midwest they always drank Maxwell House “Good to the last drop”.

Miss those Koegel's Viennas, Franks and/or Polish Sausage?

Moved to Michigan four years ago and discovered Koegels franks. I always make sure to have them in the freezer. 2020-21 during covid they were in short supply. They are the best!

    NFR Golfers in

I went to college for Turf Management. A guy I graduated with is a golf course superintendent in Bozeman. I spent 46 years in the golf course maintenance business. Retired now and haven’t played in four years. No way could I go out now and break 80! Great round Swimmy!

    Dumbest Thing On The River

Cracked my ankle as I got to the bottom of the Niagara gorge. Long walk up out of there, but I did fish all day before limping out. Laced up my boot tighter and stood in the freezing water to hold down the swelling while fishing. Packed snow into my sock on the 3 hour drive home. Mu buddy was...

WF And DT Fly Lines...An Interesting Comparison

I think most DT’s are fairly true to the weight where a lot of WF’s tend to a half size or full size heavier. Plus a lot of WF’s don’t necessarily follow the same taper as the 30’ of a DT. This changes the weight distribution over the length of the WF head.

    Simms Bought for $192 Million

Usually the upper management that was focused on the product and customer service is eventually replaced with management focusing on “Brand” marketing, and cost cutting. I think customer service will probably outsourced and talking to anyone or in the repair shop or Bozeman office will be a...

    586 fly rods

TFO used to make a BVK model. My wife has one and it is a great casting and fishing rod. Very light swingweight but can reach for distance when needed.

    Pollen

I am guessing that it had more of an effect on the caddis and damsels so that there wasn’t any reason for the fish to surface feed. I never felt I had much in the way of allergy to pollen until this year. My eyes have been extremely irritated and sticky the last two months. Pine pollen has been...

    Uni knots

I saw an interesting use of the duncan loop knot when nymphing or multiple fly subsurface fishing. Tie all the flies with the duncan loop knot but don’t snug it to the eye. Leave a little loop so that when a fish hits it will close the loop. If you just hookup briefly but lose the fish, you can...

    Rod repair costs

Last year I broke my Orvis 7’6” 4wt Brook Trout rod six weeks before the 25 year warranty ran out. Called Orvis and sent it in. They called back and gave the bad news that they didn’t have any of the original blanks which were two piece IM 6 unsanded. They replaced it with a new four piece...

    Stealthcraft

They are designed and manufactured here in Michigan right near the Pere Marquette river and very popular on our bigger rivers. Very roomy and easy to fish from. A lot of two hander fishing is done from them because a lot of our bigger rivers are difficult wade.
