    12ga pump shopping

Every once in a while you can find a used BPS…my dad has a couple and they are pretty badass too. I always liked the action on those more than my 870. I shoot a Maxxis now, and I’m never going back to a pump lol.

    12ga pump shopping

Cool thing about an 870 is you can really improve its functionality with a few very cheap parts and some good choke tubes. I’ve killed a lot of birds with my old wingmaster.

    Upper Colombia/Snake summer steelhead forecasts

I don’t see how we can account for variables in the ocean environment if we don’t have a full accounting of the scope and scale of harvest/bycatch of any species, especially seemingly unconnected things like the sardine fishery.

    It’s fun, no denying that

    Upper Colombia/Snake summer steelhead forecasts

Lol, nope, not yet. Neither have I touched a winter in my localish Columbia trib ditch, which is what I was referring to.

    Upper Colombia/Snake summer steelhead forecasts

It’s been rough, for sure. I haven’t touched a fish, and I’m good for at least one by now.

Short Belly lines with changeable tips

I wish I had more disposable income, bc I’d like to have that Zone in more configurations. I have the F1 right now in 500gr., and a coastal in similar (I think 475) that’s the intermediate/sink 3 and it sinks like a rock for those tight short runs. I need the zone in that configuration too.

What fishing/outdoor/etc stuff are you most looking forward to in 2025?

So much! Spring steel, spring slush skiing, ice off Stillwater, turkey hunting, then Sockeye…so much good shit on the horizon.

Scandi line for Big D summer run

I did really like Airflo’s Scandi compact with a fast action rod. I don’t have one, but I had a couple of buddies that ran the Deathstar with a Scadi compact….crazy line speed with that setup.

Scandi line for Big D summer run

I agree, I’m real quirky about presentation and the rage and lines like Wulffs triangle taper seemed too clunky. I’ve caught fish with them, but I ended up making these ridiculously long mono leaders to compensate for clunky line, and they don’t cast well (for me) like that.

Scandi line for Big D summer run

I love Nextcasts FF35 (it’s been redesigned and now called the Undertaker 35) for its turnover of surface flies. That line is especially nice when the wind kicks up, compared to the finer taper of some Scadi lines on the market. I’d advise against the bamboo 3wt only bc the wind. I’d rather...

    Yakima steelhead fishery history?

In some ways it feels like WDFW just wants people to think they aren’t there. People target them specifically in certain runs above Rosa, people target (mostly fly fishermen) them in the Naches under the guise of fishing for whitefish (just like a certain guide on the Klick), people target...

    Yakima steelhead fishery history?

Like Evan said, Rosa puts a big dent in what it could be/once was. There are several small creeks downstream that contribute to spawning/recruitment besides the Naches. Particularly Toppenish creek. It’s never been a destination to my knowledge, but it’s been a popular fishery in the past...

    Yakima steelhead fishery history?

This one is near and dear to me for a bunch of reasons, primarily because I live so close to the lower river. It’s complicated, but they are there and I know because I’ve caught them incidentally. The total count is not monitored (to my knowledge) except for redd surveys on several tribs (not...

Jared, you’re making Jareds, Jerrods, and Jarads uncomfortable with all this Euro business. Pick up a two handed and get your pocket picked by @Creatch’r like a real Jarad.

Let's talk about big traditional flies on long leaders

I can’t wait for soft inside seams in high water. That’s the only place I’ve really done any good with the dry line in winter.
