Need Multiple Guide Recommendations for MX and T&C

I find myself in the enviable position of going on a couple of trips to Punt Mita, MX and Turks and Cacos in March. Internet sleuthing on guides didn’t turn up much and they aren’t featured with Yellowdog or The Fly Shop. So here I am knocking on the door of this knowledgeable group of...

What plants, weeds and/or trees do you hate and why?

Here in Illinois, it’s Buckthorn. I bet we’ve cut down 1,000 of them on our property in 5 years.

Yvon Chouinard Gives Away His Company, Patagonia.

That sounds like a good way to pay two people really well vs just one…you’re not a good enough ceo to run the place by yourself but not bad enough to get rid of ya, here’s some more stock options 🤣🤣😉

Yvon Chouinard Gives Away His Company, Patagonia.

Good quality products but their clothing never fit me right…pants, shirts, sweatshirts, everything was just a bit off so I stopped buying a while ago. Good for him for putting his money where his mouth is and hopefully it actually does en up benefitting the environment. The cynical side of...

    a non-political climate change thread

I agree with this 100%, the climate is currently changing but it always has an always will. It’s just now politicians and corporations are using it as a way to make money and pretending they are doing the climate a favor for whatever initiative they want to move forward. My biggest issue is...

The "How was your weekend?" thread...

Nice little trip to Boston the past few days w/ the wifey…stayed at a nice place, ate great food, put on 50+ miles walking and riding bike seeing the sites and 2 Sox games, one of which was viewed from the top of the Green Monster. Great getaway. Looked to see if there were any fly shops in...

    Simms Bought for $192 Million

Given the connection of the new parent company to other outdoor activities (ie hunting) I could see the PE firm using the resources at Simms that produce high end gear and they enter the hunting market, either under Simms or Remington, to compete with the likes of Sitka or Kuiu.

Heat Advisory for the Wet Side

Who would have thought it get’s hot in summer time? Even ~10 years ago when I was living in Seattle, if it got into the 80’s it was described as warm. It snowed ~10” in town in Jan in 2011 I believe, it was chalked up to the fact it was winter. Not an agenda by the news channel to get...

    Rivertrip Packing List

Too many practical ideas here…I always make sure I have a small Bluetooth speaker, phone and portable charger. Gotta have tunes on the boat and/ or camp.

    2022 Garden Thread

Not necessarily from the “garden” but came home from a work trip last night to a bowl full of morels that we’re harvested in the backyard and being cleaned. Dinner is going to be good tonight!!

Are fajitas the official food of fishing trips?

I like the comment about breakfast burritos…I’m more of a green chili person for lunch/ dinner and some elk & jalapeño sticks while on the river. Chili’s is some good eatin’ though, do the servers wear enough flair though?

    A Smith River Odyssey

Shouldn’t be any problems for you…if I were to take that long I’d probably spend the appropriate night at Heaven on Earth to break things up…a break in setting up camp, a shower and a meal cooked by someone else is always nice. Good luck, make sure to post up how it went!!

    A Smith River Odyssey

No regrets, the non-fishing boats were to camp by 4pm each day so they were able to set up camp/ kitchen. Would have been nice to have a bit more time to explore some of the cool stuff on the hikes but don’t feel like we missed much.
