Fish a high Cascade Lake and saw big fish chomping something large on the surface. Not sure but seemed like they were occasionally eating the butterflies that are everywhere this summer. Tried a chubby...no takers. Then I went to my fav O Caddis pattern Whomp! Got two big brownies

The Mo has good numbers of nice size fish. Being a tailwater it is somewhat protected from spring tunoff but can still have rather high flows. If other area streams are blown out, all the guides head to the Mo, so probably avoid weekends. BWOs. various mayflies, caddis, sow bugs, worms and...

It's not as fun as it might sound 🧐 To me, "Smutting rises" are those just barely sub-surface boils when a fish is eating emerging bugs. They just show a quiet boil or maybe you see a tail but no nose. Definitely not actually eating on the surface. That's my definition, may not be accurate...

I was just reminiscing with some friends about my Buoy 10 mis-adventure fishing from a 13 foot Livingston. A hot coho got wrapped in the prop, and while trying to reach out to unwind it ... I fell out of the boat head first! Doh! :rolleyes:
