    Favorite Reel Grease?

Interesting, and thanks. I've used it on my two Islanders for about 15 years on one and 5 on the other without a problem. I only use these in salt and they get a good rinse each time. And a periodic treatment when I think it's needed.

Neatsfoot oil for cork drags. Penn used to sell a tube of red grease. Down to my last squeeze. It's been reliable.

Tinsel icicles or low cost tinsel

I bought some cheap tinsel at Walmart a couple of years ago. It was very poor quality and broke very easily. I used it in wings and tails and it didn't hold up very well.

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

When we lived in the Yukon and the kids were small we made a day of packing a lunch and hot drinks and going off to murder a tree. We found a really nice shaped spruce so I took the swede saw to it and tied it to the roof of the jeep and brought it home. The next day I brought it into the house...

    Caring for a pheasant carcass

I've preserved skins before simply by laying them out on cardboard and completely covering them with table salt and letting them sit for about 3 months. Never had a problem but I'm now more inclined to pluck the feathers I want and keep them in a ziploc bag.

Craft Beads? Alternative Craft Store Materials to Add "Naturalistic" Characteristics?

Another thing worth checking out in craft stores is artificial sinew that leatherworkers use. It comes in different colours and lighter colours can be coloured with permanent markers. I've used it on shellbacks on nymphs and twisted it into a cord for caddis larvae patterns.

Craft Beads? Alternative Craft Store Materials to Add "Naturalistic" Characteristics?

There's a number of bead shops around and online. I've purchased a few times from Beads by Dee. I've purchased embroidery threads, yarns, plastic beading material, felting yarn, wire in various colours, foam sheet, alcohol ink for dying metal beads and plated dumbbell eyes, rolls of sheet...

What plants, weeds and/or trees do you hate and why?

Scotch Broom. In his two volume history of BC, G.P.V. Akrigg states that an early settler to the area of southern Vancouver Island named Grant was visited by a friend from Scotland who was on his way to the Sandwich Islands. He gave Grant a few Broom seeds so that Grant could see them bloom in...

    Casting Long Leader Indicator Rigs

I maybe see things a little differently because I don't find casting long leaders all that hard. The weight in fishing with any other kind of rod is provided by the lure or the lead attached to the line. The weight in fly fishing is provided by the fly line. If you start by getting about six...
