    Classic reels

I don't have that many old classics but I have one that is really nice. Which is a Forrest and sons which smooth as butter. I thought I would throw in some pic of local reel makers and one international builder that are sticking to building amazing reels. Matt Zinkgraf out of Bellingham and Mark...

    Spey rod#6

Thanks guys for your kind words, as I progress with learning how to build these rods I try something new on each rod. This rod I really like how it feels and it doesn’t feel heavy to me. By using hardwood lower handle and down locking reel seat it helps with balance. The swing weight and...

    Spey rod#6

Yes I scallop the butt section and mid sections to reduce weight. I started using hardwood lower handles to help with the balance. I started basing my taper from a Bob Clay rod and have made adjustments as I go. So far I have built a couple 12ft 9 inch 7/8 and a 12ft 9 inch 6 weight which i...

    New ugly stik……

That’s awesome Steve, it looks like the handle is less than straight. That would have been fun to wrap the guides and how did you turn the cork?

    Pink Punisher

This is my 5th rod Spey rod and learned a lot. I started playing around with hardwood components and definitely need more work on this. This rod is for GOTY and the rod is 12ft 9 inch 3 piece spliced rod for a 6 wght. I used the Quinchat milling tool for the tip section and also used the...

    Rain

I was at an outdoor reggae show last night and fortunately I was in a covered area. About half the crowd wasn’t and the show was cancelled. Getting out of White River venue sucked but did get to see lots of lightning, getting to the car with my wife was crazy. We made it home safe but the amount...

    Oregon bottom fish report

I have fly fished this fishery on the Oregon coast for at least the last 15 years. It’s amazing that your fish finder will be solid fish and not hook a fish. Each year is unique as there is a vast variety of food sources. It can vary a lot with crab spawn, jellyfish, a hole variety of bait fish...

We got these Sharks comin' in!

I grew up on the sound and was a deck hand and worked on some commercial boats in the sound mainly working the straits. We had a seven gill shark sink our gill net targeting sockeye and it filled the back of a full size truck. Not familiar with the soup fin sharks but seven gill are not unusual...

    Oregon Coast Advice Needed

There has been a ton of baitfish around and the widow rockfish smelt work also. And the stand closer minnows will work. And don't forget poppers as when the fish are up top it's a blast.
