Mini Redfish Report (thanks @Evan B!)

Got a nice package in the mail from a certain @Evan B last week and spooled up my trusty Islander reel with a fresh 9wt Airflo floater. This was tastefully paired with my beater Cabela’s 8wt. Tonight I slipped my paddleboard into the grass flat at the back of the neighborhood and nabbed a couple...

    The Giant Tarpon of Homosassa

You fishing with a guide or a buddy? Been looking into Homosassa and curious about guide choices. Have fun, stick em

What’s the best landing net deal out there?

Hit a few thrift stores and find an aluminum net- pick one with a hoop size and handle length you like. The net will be knotted, tangled and dry-rotten (not fish friendly at all). Cut it right off. Hop on eBay and buy a “replacement rubber net bag” of the approximate circumference of your hoop...

Post your first fish of 2025 here

Already posted my first elsewhere, but had another great winter session in the Lowcountry this morning.

The "How was your weekend?" thread...

Overnight lows below freezing led to lethargic fish in the marsh, but managed to pick this one out of a school.

    Favorite fish/story/trip of 2024?

Always my favorite thread of the year! My first guided trip ever. I was in West Palm Beach with friends and booked a "night shift expedition" to sight-fish snook under dock lights at midnight. 4 hours of consistent action with some jack crevalle mixed in, and my buddy even got a juvenile...

    Why No Center Consoles?

Totally agree, which could explain the simple aluminum/tiller crowd. However, there are used center consoles at almost every price point out here, and are priced very similarly to the inboard/outboard bayliners and other fish/ski boats.

    Why No Center Consoles?

Saw this on one of the other threads, beautiful. What size yamaha?

    Why No Center Consoles?

Huh, maybe I'm just thinking about it from a fly-fishing perspective and not seeing the bigger picture. I guess if you're never casting and retrieving then you have no need for an open bow/casting deck. However, I'm sure you could find a way to rig downriggers on just about any kind of gunwale...

    Why No Center Consoles?

Out here in Charleston SC, 16-18ft fiberglass center consoles (single 50hp-90hp outboard) are the most common fishing vessel by a good margin. Why isn't this platform more common for the Puget Sound? Certainly not a vessel for open ocean, but we have a 6ft avg tide range, common 20-25 knot...

POLL: Pick my fly- Beach fishing

Update: Put the votes to the test, fished the woolly bugger for a couple hours. Never caught so many sculpin in my life! They ate on the swing through a rip, and ate on the strip! Switched to a white/chartreuse Clouser as advised for the second half of the day, still no gamefish. Hope to get...

POLL: Pick my fly- Beach fishing

Thanks! I’ll be fishing a beach where I have caught both SRC and coho. Unfortunately, in my experience at this beach, I feel like it’s a bit late for SRC and a bit early for coho, so I’m not sure what will be around. I’ve even caught a chinook there.

POLL: Pick my fly- Beach fishing

Hello grizzled beach anglers- I’m visiting my hometown in the Northwest and I have 1 (maybe 2) days to fish the North sound next week. I scavenged through my trout and steelhead boxes for passable beach fishing flies, help me pick what to throw. 1. Size 6 beadhead sparkly thing 2. Size 4...

Guided Fishing Trip- Bring your own gear?

Thanks for the responses, I may need to reconsider my stance. If I can schedule in some DIY days then maybe it would be best to bring my 8wt setup. It would fish well for the bonefish and snook. But when it comes to the permit/tarpon, I'm hesitant to invest in a 10wt setup that will only get...

Guided Fishing Trip- Bring your own gear?

We are throwing around the idea of visiting Belize or the Keys this winter. The internet is full of fly fishing "gear guides" and "packing lists" for such trips, but I know my fishing would be guided. Most outfitters state that they provide the necessary tackle. Although I've done it on several...
