No we were visiting kin in CA & my Son wanted 1 for his bug barn. I spotted it on the edge of a terraced lawn & commenced my stealthy approach. I'm guessing it got stung by a Tarantula Hawk. Unlike Jim Stafford, I like spiders & snakes . . .

I once spent 30 minutes sneaking up on a dead tarantula. Does that count?

I bought a 5C's cover 12 years ago. Other than a few stains, the cover is still intact, sound & is now residing in SW Montana. Worth every dollar I paid for it.

I was 14 in '62. Mom, Dad, Aunts, Uncles & all of us Cousins were still using bamboo. I made my 1st glass rod in the mid 70's (7-1/2' 5 weight on a Fenwick blank. I still have that & several of the old bamboo rods.).

Definitely report that! Request that LE increase patrols in that area. Be safe.

This thread has been most informative & enjoyable, even if it does make me feel like a sinner for all of the bamboo rod tips I broke as a kid.

It has cousins that fly, well . . . glide.

Logged my share of outdoor hours in the dark too with no questionable activity sightings then either. I still believe waterfowl are a real possibility.
