    What Are You Eating?

Careful, I did that for sick dog 5 years ago (Leukemia). Because she was getting it, we gave some to the other dogs too. Unfortunately, she passed within a few months. 5 years later, the other dogs get boiled chicken every night for dinner. Spoiled brats!

Bainbridge vs Vashon Island Sea Run Cutthroat

I live on Bainbridge and have fished its beaches a bunch over the last 10 years and I drive a ways every week in winter to do 99%+ of my SRC fishing. That said, if you are going to fish the mid/north sound in winter, this is the better side of the sound to do it. It might pay off hitting a spot...

    Puget Sound

Used the same tape for years with no residue on any of the lines I use on the sound. I don’t use textured fly lines, maybe that helps.

That’s nothing! It’s not even bleeding :). Keep fishing, eventually it just becomes a permanent callous. I’m a desk jockey by trade so I have “city hands” as Captain Quint says. During the height of coho season, my hands start to look like I might actually work for a living thanks to salty fly...

I hear you. Until a few years ago I was pretty much 100% shore bound. Popular spots are tougher and your right, harder to find these days like most types of fishing. The cool thing about SRC though is they are not picky. I used to tie some real funky shit that would get eaten at those well...

IMHO, the key to SRC fishing is finding fish. You don’t have to be a great fly caster, a great tier, a great anything but you have to have persistence. You’ll get skunked a lot until you find beaches that produce and uncover some patterns. The first couple years I started fishing SRC fishing...

Affordable places you would actually want to live

My wife and I are doing a similar search now. I love everything western Washington has to offer but we are ready for a new adventure. We are also seeking more solitude/space. We are currently WFH so the whole country is an option which actually makes the decision really hard. Lots of beautiful...

Hit the sound with @Kfish today looking for SRC. We zipped around to a few spots with the boat. Hooked a lot, lost some and landed a solid number of fish. Fish were not super aggressive today even with the good incoming tide. We watched a number of fish slowly follow our flies casually nipping...

Nice! The biggest fish I caught yesterday puked up a giant herring as well. Edit: Forgot because it was an easy day to forget. I went out today with the main target being chum. First two spots had few fish. Almost not worth fishing though I gave it a shot. Running between spots, I hit a couple...

Hit a number of spots from the boat today looking for SRC. Found them in a few. Overall, solid day. 14 or 15 to hand and a few others lost. Size ranged from small (8-10 inches) to solid ~18 inches. Got to be ready for different opportunities this time of year :).

I wish I recalled that thread because it’s a great idea. I’ll remember for next year. I never use the rod to pop the hook out unless it’s foul hooked. Would never use the technique on a fair hooked fish. Too many teeth to get a tip top caught on along with a thrashing head. Foul hooked...

I would not worry about things getting bitten off but they’ll definitely rake you pretty good if your careless.

Foul hooked chum are no fun at all. It’s like a different fish when you hook them fairly. Hooked fairly, they often won’t even make it to the reel. They dog the crap out of you but easily handled by a 7 weight. Foul hooked and they’ll often get in you backing in seconds. Such a PIA. No good for...

There were definitely fish around but chum is a numbers game. A 30 fish pod might have 15 biters or 1. Today it was closer to 1 :). The more pods the more biters, and with not as many in the usual spots, it resulted in a slow day. We both hooked a decent number but only landed a small amount...

Hit the sound with @Kfish from his boat today. Day kind of went like this. Ok, we’ll do this for a couple hours and then go fish SRC. A dozen or more hooked chum later…ok, 30 more minutes…half a dozen hooked chum later. Ok, 15 more minutes than SRC here we come!! 15 minutes later…ok, let’s save...

It was a fun morning! No pics for me. I only landed a couple fair hooked fish. Lost a small number more.

    Short Lightweight Rain Jackets

I’ve got this one and it’s been solid. Zippers have stood up surprisingly well to salt water with minimal rinsing. That said, since I wear it in the rain, by nature it gets a decent rinsing :). It has held up better to salt than past rain and wading jackets I’ve owned...
