Haven’t had much luck this year so far. Still getting used to my new 7wt Sage Foundation. Had a shot at a nice resident coho that jumped in front of me last Friday, but outside of that I haven’t seen much of any coho up my alley.

Slowly tow around an inline spinner like a rooster tail or panther martin. No need for a weight or dodger. 20-30 pulls. I have caught some really nice fish this way.

Aren’t there some coho and chinook from BC rivers that wander into the Sound on occasion to? I thought I read a paper a few years ago saying that a small number of BC-origin fish get caught deep into the Puget Sound.

I think it starts with restricting water use, especially during drought years. One thing that needs to go away is the suburban obsession of having a lush green lawn. That accounts for a lot of wasted water during the summer months.

I’ve been able to do my mountain dry fly fishing for small cutts early this year. Probably a month early. But I’m very worried about how things will look in August and September. Hopefully we get at least some solid rains this month.

You have the same plan as me haha. Fishing the sound is a primary reason I stick around. If I can’t fish my home waters, I’m 100% taking a job where the cost of living is lower and can actually afford a down payment on a house.

Definitely a summer run in my opinion. May isn’t too early, especially for it to be hanging out in the salt. A few used to get caught from March to early July off the same beaches that were known to produce winter run fish.

I would think they would give us more days for July in MA 9 considering it’s a pink year. A good portion of the pink run enters Admiralty Inlet during those last 2 weeks of July.

I think the solution to extending seasons for these popular fisheries is to implement an annual limit for chinook (like what we have for halibut). It looks like we are certainly heading that direction and I wonder how seriously WDFW has been considering it.

I’ve tried winter steelhead fishing mostly with gear the past 5 years and haven’t caught shit. I go out about 10-15 times a winter too. I’m kinda envious that I’ve never gotten the opportunity to fish for them in decent, catchable numbers. I guess I was born too late.
