SFR A decision has been made-big move coming

I visited Pittsburgh many times in the mid-90’s through mid-00’s when my folks moved there from Seattle. My first experience with NE weather and culture. Great food, some beautiful deciduous forests, colorful locals. I fished within an hour’s drive of Highland Park. Smallmouth, largemouth, pike...

    BC Fishing License adventure....

This thread was helpful getting setup for my BC license. Choose your country of origin first when entering your address. I had my BCeID and registered in the WILD system in about 10 minutes.

    Dry Falls Fishing Dried Up?

Nobody goes there anymore…it’s too crowded. It was packed on my last visit in April. It’s getting warm now. Warmer than I like for trout. The fishing is always challenging. If you can figure out other popular fisheries you can find fish at DF.

    Wader Materials

I have two GoreTex Pro shell jackets that are almost 10 years old and still completely functional. My waders are a collection, mostly Patagonia, purchased on close out sales. No Gore technology or Toray to be found. I rotate through several sets rather than investing $$$ in one. The article...

    Another Two Fly Question

Probably half of the stillwater fishing I do is 15-30’ deep. Slip indicators are an important piece of equipment! I typically keep a shallow indicator setup in the boat with a 12’ leader, just in case, but use a slip indicator there as well.

NFR Queens are out and about

First worker yellow jacket showed up. Clearly I didn’t catch all the queens. Notice the size disparity with a queen (on the left, worker on the right).

    Grayling in a Stillwater setting

If there’s an inlet be sure to check it out. I’ve found grayling podded up in the seam. Softhackles just under the surface have worked for me.

    Early Season BC Trip

Nice work! I’ll be there in August.

NFR Queens are out and about

Definitely on pace for a personal best. Traps have been up 30 days and I have 115 queen yellow jackets. I typically continue to catch them through mid-June. Here’s hoping reducing the neighborhood nest count by 100+ makes August and September more pleasant.

    Coffee talk

@Matt B my first aeropress cup was excellent. Lots of soft berry flavors, kinda jam-like. I want to try a lighter roast as a batch of cold brew to see if the floral description comes through. I went pretty deep into Guatemala, Brazil, Honduras, and Colombia beans starting last fall. I found a...

NFR Queens are out and about

I’ve had the problem of attracting them to my landing net. Residual fish slime on the soft mesh bag. Wait for a few to land then dunk it in the lake!

NFR Queens are out and about

The standard Rescue cone-shaped bait that pairs with the traps. I’ll recharge with the liquid in another couple of weeks and again once a month until fall.

NFR Queens are out and about

They keep showing up here. There was a lull after two weeks of trapping. Got 5 fresh ones in one trap today. Smooshed one in my garage as well

Meadowlake Fish Camp in mid-late September

Now keep in mind these are Canadian animals. Very friendly by our standards 🇨🇦🧸🫎 Even the mosquitoes leave small welts. But I still use DEET.

Meadowlake Fish Camp in mid-late September

For anyone who is considering bringing a dog…the Nehalliston Plateau is bear and moose county. My group has “smelled bear”, found fresh crap, and come across fresh moose tracks. Be sure that you and your dog are up for that.

Meadowlake Fish Camp in mid-late September

There’s a group of us going back to that area in mid-August for the third time. It’s an early fall feel at that time. Mixed weather (typically pleasant and in the 60’s with some colder days with rain, and some warmer) and the fishing can be anything from deep dragon nymphs to chironomids to...

    Two Fly Question

Either way. I like balanced leeches on the bottom. Micro leeches on scud hooks go up top. When fish are keyed into the bottom 12-18” I’ll wait to see if my buddy is getting them on something different before I switch up.

    Coffee talk

New bag day. Ethiopian dry process. I’ve been on a South and Central American kick. These Ethiopian beans roast up super quickly. I think I hit a good level pouring them out just at the end of first crack. I’ll rest it until Monday.

Catching a unicorn & DFL late report

Tiger from an early March trip into the hike-in spot a few years ago. I average about 1 tiger or brown a day in addition to the rainbows. Always an interesting place!
