Hey Matt, What knots were you using when building the leaders? Thanks!

    Striped marlin gear?

Thanks for the tip on chapstick! Snugging down thick flouro has been a problem for me.

    What's in your vise?

I was told for Mag bay in November the sardines have blue backs. Some pink also. 4 to 6 inches. But have no actual experience. In June on the Cortez side, it was light green to olive backs, just on the top.

Yeah, it's not really an excuse.

    Shops newsletters, reports and... hotspotting?

The owners of that shop are new. They bought it last year. Maybe they don't realize what they are doing with the detailed reports? Maybe reach out to that David dude or stop by the shop and let them know your concerns? Or post the same message on the westfly reddit, the owners are on that...

    Striped marlin gear?

@Evan B Evan - thanks for the info! Makes sense that you don't need to pump them up from the depths. Good point on the knots. I suck at knots, and am not looking forward to tying knots with 100lb flouro. Another thing to practice. @Nick Clayton Hey Nick - thank you for the offer, that's...

    Striped marlin gear?

I'm going to be fishing for striped marlin around the 100 lb range this fall. We will be casting to them and stripping. I've got a 12 wt Sage Salt and an Abel Super 12 with 500 yards of 65 lb gel spun backing. Trying to figure out if I should also bring a 14 wt setup. This is probably a one...

An important part of Oregon's history and heritage needs to be celebrated. Please be a part of the solution.

My wife is a native Oregonian. She took offense to the "once in a lifetime" statement. Maybe that's true in another state. But not in Oregon.

Fishing in Mexico - Part 2

Day 3 - Same routine. Got bait from the bait guys and headed out to the spot we'd started at the prior two days. Guide throws bait, water starts to boil and roosters are busting. Watch as a rooster turns on my fly, and boom, fish on! My friend quickly hooks up also, and we start slow chasing. I...

Fishing down in Mexico - Part 1

A dozen would have been handy. I'm going to try to learn to tie those. Fortunately the GI tract only had that one bad late night/early morning. I try to stay away from the salads also. But I eat guacamole for almost every meal, so good.

Fishing down in Mexico - Part 1

Ah, got it. We're fishing with the same guy we went with for roosters. He's super fishy, and a pretty fun dude. He's setting up a fish camp somewhere near Puerto Chale.

Fishing down in Mexico - Part 1

This one in olive and white. https://redsflyfishing.com/collections/baja-baitfish/products/two-tone-brushy-tan-white-by-fulling-mill-saltwater-baitfish?variant=43675136262343. We're fishing Nov. 20-24, when are you there? After last week, I'm thinking I'd better get a short 14wt for Mag Bay also.

Fishing down in Mexico - Part 1

Back in the winter, a friend asked if I wanted to go on a couple of fishing trips in Mexico this year - grande roosters in June and Mag Bay in Nov. He's an obsessive fisherman, with a lot of time spent down in Mexico. The only salt fishing I'd done is a couple of tuna trips out of Westport. But...

    Roche Lk

I was at that campground two years ago in my Prius. I was told they had done a lot of work on the road. If I recall correctly, some good potholes and what not, but didn't have any issues - if a Prius had enough clearance, a trailer trailer should also.

    Morels!

Last year I decided to give morel hunting in Mt Hood National Forest a try. Went to the ranger station in Zig Zag, they gave me a map of the forest with the open areas for mushrooms. I put on my clueless face (I seem to be a natural at it) and the nice ranger woman pointed out a couple spots to...

    Man I Love to Fish

Thanks Steve! Yes, I thought about it afterwards, my mistake. Will include PDFs next time. Good news is all those tubes have two bladders. But other things can go wrong, better safe than sorry.
