The giant ditch on the Oregon/Washington border

Thanks. I thought that there might be some "special" Carp fly, but as I tie variations of the Stone & Damsel for Trout if I ever come across Carp I will know what to do.

    NFR Owl House help

About 3 years ago I built a Bared Owl House and put it up in a tree on my property. I used plans found on the internet and placed it on a tree according to the information. However, no owls. I hear Barred Owls in the neighborhood and have heard newly hatched owlets in the woods near my place...

NFR Queens are out and about

This is the third year in a row that I have Bumble Bees living under my raised beds. Their entrance is always on the "back" so I don't have much interaction with them. They have never bothered me and we get along fine plus (hopefully) they are good pollinators for veggies. Much better than...

    When to re-tie? R wind-knots bad?

    1. Don't retie unless the tippet gets too short to use. 2. Don't retie unless you lose the next fish to a bad knot. If situation #2 occurs, go Zen and then move on to next fish. Losing fish to bad knots, poor retrieval, or breaking off due to low strength tippet is simply part of fly fishing...

Best Fly Threader And Knot Tying Tool For Visually Impaired?

One of the guys I fish with has some hand tremor problems and uses this threader. It works for him. He can see fine, but the threader holds flies in a manner which he can guide the tippet into the hole without too much trouble

    wolves...

I have used my Lab's hair for flies as it floats really well (he does too). Maybe wolf hair will work as well, but I suspect wolves will be less amenable to having hair plucked from their coats

Life getting in the way of fishing... sigh

It is not the best rod I have ever fished, but it is certainly better than not...

    64 Alaska Earthquake

I know that I am showing my age, but I remember looking at earthquake pictures in LIFE magazine. I talked with my grandfather about the it as he had a cousin who was living in Anchorage at the time. He did not know what happened to his cousin until about a month later when he got a letter...
