At a glance the grip might be salvaged by filling the pits if the overall shape of it is acceptable. Then you could zip tie or tape a reel on the reel seat location to do a bit of test casting to see if the rod is worth the effort. I would suggest more guides would help. For testing you could...

Funny that just yesterday I was rummaging through my line collection looking for a sink tip and came across those silk lines. I might have to pull them out of the zip lock and see what kind of condition they are in after all these years. I have a WF 4 and a DT 4 and a 5WT I think.

Yes I blue my ferrules and reel seat hardware. Comes out more of a gun meatal color with the Duronze. I like the color myself.

I am just about finished up on a new rod of my own taper. It is a copy of the taper that I shared at the Fling last year. A good friend decided he wanted a copy. We'll cast it soon to see if I hit the marks and made a replica of the taper he cast to meet his expectations.

That is neat that the kit is so complete. I remember my father winning a similar rod on a tavern punchboard and giving it to me.

Just multiple applications of rubbing alcohol. The rod wraps were overcoated with something very thin in viscosity. Denatured alcohol might be faster, but I wanted to be sure I didn't soften the original varnish, which it didn't.

I ended up ordering from Red Rock Threads in Nevada. I've used them before once I believe. Not as handy as picking it up from the rack in a local store, but I'm getting the color I need in a couple of days in my mailbox.

Brilliant! I'll use that tip to clean up missed dried varnish close to the wraps. I should have mentioned in my previous post that you can double or triple the strand of floss to wick up more varnish if necessary.
