Stonefly Nymphs - Weighted or Not?

I have a question about tying and fishing stonefly nymphs. I generally fish smaller streams and I don't often fish stoneflies, but I will probably be able to get to some good Idaho and Montana streams this summer. Do you guys prefer fishing stoneflies with weight, lead wrap, beads, etc.? Or...

Fishing access - Grant County road closure/delays.

Thanks for the heads up, Buzzy. Luckily for me, I don't fish that route much, but I do use it to get to and from bird hunting locales. And bird season 9 months away.

Rare Rod Find: 1925-1927 Edwards trade rod

Ron, that's a gorgeous rod. I still have that modified Gene Edwards rod I bought from you in 2022. I haven't fished it yet, just lawn casting, but I hope to get out this spring with it for bass. I love the wrap colors on these rods, and the history is wonderful. Cliff

    50ft Enough Line?

Ron, thanks very much for your offer. I have several 5w & 6w silk lines that I can try out on this rod, both old and new. I appreciate your offer but I think I'm ok for now. -Cliff.

    50ft Enough Line?

Dave, I've been fishing silk of various kinds for years, but I've never tried the Sylk lines, so I cannot compare. One of these days I'd like to try one.

    50ft Enough Line?

I have an opportunity to get a silk line for my 7wt Edwards rod, but it's only 50ft (16 yards?). I'm not much of a distance caster, but do you guys feel this is long enough for most fishing? I would be using this rod/line for mostly bass, pinks, possibly salt. Thanks, Cliff

Jeff Pope rod - good deal

I remember Jeff from way back when he was sort of working with Mark Ruhe in Spokane. He was using Mark's blanks for his rods and he had a few for sale at the old Avid Angler when Tom Darling was running it near Northgate. They were nice rods.

any recent intel on Rocky Ford?

I had a bird dog trainer who lived a few miles east of RF and tweekers stole his "Bird Dog Training" sign. The steel scrap yard owner in Moses Lake had been a client and noticed the sign. He called the owner and gave it back to him.

any recent intel on Rocky Ford?

Thanks Buzzy, I've hunted those areas, too. Quail all over, but you can just as easily not see them. I hunt with English setters and I have a new pup this year that I need to get into birds, lots of birds.

any recent intel on Rocky Ford?

The plateau above the Ford is a natural for valley quail, and I've hunted it a bit in the past. But I've never seen more that one covey in there, or singles. I've struck out there often enough that I don't hunt it anymore.
