    Personal Protection

I’ve been handling firearms since I was seven (under VERY close adult supervision) and have had six different firearm safety courses including two in the Air Force prior to deployment in Vietnam. I’ve lived in five large cities and four smaller ones. I’ve hunted big game and dangerous in four...

What happened to bird hunting in Yakima?

This is just sad. I’m sure it’s a function of changes in agriculture plus reduced access to good habitat. Whatever it is, it’s just sad" https://wdfw.wa.gov/sites/default/files/publications/02522/Prospects_2024_Region%203_District%208.pdf

    Cast and blast

I used one on an old .30 Mauser in South Africa, absolutely loved it! First 300+ yard shot I’ve ever taken, dropped the animal with one shot, heard the bullet impact. Incredibly smooth shooting, if I were still hunting, I’d have one on every barrel!

    MT in Mid Oct

Now, Jim said “road construction” was a season. It’s important to note on occasion you may have to stop for construction flag men in Montan. You may wait ten minutes or 25+ minutes before you are released to continue driving. You may or may not see any of the reported construction as you drive...

    Jasper National Park Fire

I’ve been through Jasper a dozen times heading to northern Alberta goose hunting. It tragic to think of the human borne damage. I also have to think about the bighorn sheep, elk, moose, mountain goats and their young. Tragic all of it.

Raves, Rants, Lessons Learned, and the White Pass Trifecta

Thanks for the outstanding, detailed report! Having fished Leech Lake in the early 60’s, I happy to hear so many folks are fly fishing now. Back in the day, us long rod slingers were rare in number and if a fish was landed its future included a frying pan and some lemon butter. As for Dog Lake...

    Leech Lake Newb

My last flyfishing experience with my father was in May 1966. He had found a new bamboo Orvis fly rod in the old Bon Marche in Yakima. Yes, in Yakima! He said he and I were the only two people within 200 miles what “Orvis” meant. Anyway, he planned to buy it for my high school graduation...
