    Non-Fly Boat's first halibut trip

Arrowtooth . . .what a nasty fish. One more reason for an electric reel - if I reeled one of those buggers up from 800' I might just throw the whole outfit overboard. :D

Nicely done gents! Looks like an awesome time.

Lake Fishing Etiquette or Lack Thereof

Sounds like all the low-holers who got kicked off all Puget Sound's rivers have invaded the lakes. 😄 I go fishing in part to get away from humanity, so my gut reaction when folks in boats cuddle up to a spot I'm already fishing on a lake is to GTF away. But, as Billy pointed out, my...

    TFO deer creek 14' 6/7

The final year of the Deer Creeks they released many models in 5pc. I came into possession of one of the 12'6" 5/6wt 5pc and I know there were at least three other models that were released as 5pc rods. They were a bit stiffer because of the additional ferrules and the actions were changed...

    TFO deer creek 14' 6/7

One of my favorite rods! I like the Airflo Rage 480gr and polyleaders for fishing surface/near surface flies in the summer. Occasionally take it out in the winter with a SA Skagit 480gr and T10 tips from 7' to 12'.

    Useless Basin bass report

Awesome report! Noem lake sounds like quite the wildlife safari. I think I'd have screwed up that cow situation. My granddad ran some Angus and when he had heart trouble one year I spent a summer being a farmboy. Part of the job was to move the cattle from one field to another, and I...

    Survive the Sound 2024

Yeah, sadly no return trip for Emerald either. Got eaten in the same zone - off Fort Flagler. A watery version of the Hunger Games-

    Survive the Sound 2024

I wonder what motivates their seemingly random zigzagging as they head out toward the ocean? I understand the random activity at the Hood Canal bridge - that's the chokepoint where my smolt met his end last year. Are they following tidal currents? Food sources? Emerald is still alive and...

    Survive the Sound 2024

Cool to check in and see how the PNWFF's fish team is doing. Emerald's rocking up the sound, last seen enjoying the vibe off of Agate Pass. Swim on little buddy!

    Bad outing for FlyFish Dan

Rod weights and Steelhead is another entertaining and complex topic. I watched Ed Ward battle a large Skagit fish on a soft 6wt switch rod and he had it licked in under 5 minutes. I've also watched inexperienced folks with 9wt spey rods following fish around with their rod pointed toward the...

    Bad outing for FlyFish Dan

Just guessing, but if Flyfish Dan ever has the reel seat of one of his own rods fall off you wouldn't be watching it happen on a YouTube video. ;) I've had a number of firearm related issues while fishing and know how he felt. Had some dudes open up with automatic weapons shooting into the...

    Cant fix stupid!

Yeah, reality is that bison never bothered me in YNP. I stayed away from them and they stayed away from me. I do remember pissing off a bull elk one time in the fall that wanted to cross the Madison where I was fishing. My dad suggested I get outta the water as the bull was beginning to...

    Cant fix stupid!

I'm sure glad WDFW's not trying to reintroduce Bison to WA. Can you imagine the chaos, with innocent eastside flyfishers being trampled by these beasts? You'd have to carry a 12 gauge for every seeplake hike-in. ;)

Second fishing trip in my new truck

Kudos on taking the plunge Matt and hope you enjoy your purchase. One side benefit is that it might also deter Tweaker breakins. I personally can't wait till Tesla comes out with a truck camper to slap on the back of that beast!

    Dog Bite On Waders

Ditto the comments no puncture = you'll be ok. Also on the unleashed dogs - I carry pepper spray on walks with my pup cause I don't want to permanently harm the other dogs and it's just a way to stop an attack. I'd much rather use it on their owners who often allow/encourage aggressive...

Cheap-ass winter stick. TFO Pro II, 11'6" 7/8. Question...

I have the TFO Pro II 11' 6/7wt and it likes an Airflo Scout 420gr and T10 tips. A typical jump for the 7/8wt would be to the 480 to 510gr range for shorter Skagit heads. Which is a long way of saying that DanielOcean's guess is probably right on! ;)

    FishWA App Update

Not yet, but one of the enforcement folks I bumped into on the OP tells me that electronic licenses are coming to WA. Targeted for 2025
