Interesting read. Not only a bad umpire but kinda sleazy too.

    NFR 2022 Baseball Thread

Angel Hernandez took MLB to court because he's never been allowed to umpire a World Series nor been appointed as crew chief. He states it's because he's of Cuban nationality. He lost and appealed and now as the appeal grinds along, MLB has called a spade a spade. The fact is, he's just really...

Insect repellant review (DEET and others) WA Post

We've found that if the blue pads become weakened by use we see a few bugs. And we've shut them off to see what happens and it doesn't take long before the bugs return. It's like a lot of solutions to any problem. There's not one solution but a combination of many to get the problem solved.

Insect repellant review (DEET and others) WA Post

We've been using these for 4 years. They definitely deter mosquitoes but I'm not sure they're as good on blackflies, noseeums and deer flies. I have two of them and guys I fish with also have them. A good deterrent I find for blackflies is Avon Skin so Soft. They won't come near you. I have 3...

Fish ID (not Atlantic salmon...) help,"River of the Garnet Sands"

Tough to detect from the photo but the eye on sockeye, or in this case the land-locked variety, kokanee, is closer to the upper jaw bone than in coho. And, although it's hard do distinguish, sockeye lack spots on the back and upper tail like coho have so this is a kokanee. Here is a link to the...

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

Is this the same guy that returned a bunch of nails because they had the head on the wrong end? He didn't realize that he could have used them on the other side of the house.

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

A widow placed a personal ad in the local newspaper... HUSBAND WANTED! MUST BE IN MY AGE GROUP (70's). MUST NOT BEAT ME. MUST NOT RUN AROUND ON ME, AND MUST STILL BE GOOD IN BED! ALL APPLICANTS PLEASE APPLY IN PERSON. On the second day, she heard the doorbell. Much to her dismay, she opened...

    Official Beach Line Thread

Of those listed I like the OBS for single hand but I picked up a Cortland Striped Bass Blitz from their Cold Salt Series. Tried it once on an Echo 3 and like it. It has a 26' head backed by a 13' handling section. When Mayfly took over Airflo in the US they dropped a number of lines. Not sure...

    Favorite affordable hook brand/series?

The c40HW is a great hook for chironomids. The 18s are a perfect size. As for Firehole sticks, cheap, and I mean here "inexpensive", is relative to cost associated to the product. We order from Joe and they're a great hook and loved by our customers. But being in Canada our final price...

    Favorite affordable hook brand/series?

Firehole are good hooks but some of their larger jig hooks won't take certain slotted beads.

Yeah I'm doing an order for them right now. PM Pat.

    Favorite affordable hook brand/series?

I was told that Orvis takes a smattering of hook suppliers offerings and rebrands them. I've laid some of their styles down by Mustad, Daiichi, Tiemco and Maruto and found some matches. They don't have a hook factory of their own. Maruto are made by Dohitomi who also make hooks for several other...

Suggestions for an auto inflatable life jacket?

Most if not all government agencies in Canada who are on the water use Mustang. My first one was issued to me before 1990 and I'm still using Mustang for fishing. I never had one go off prematurely and that was after many long days out offshore in heavy rain and the one time I was tossed out of...

    Favorite affordable hook brand/series?

They were a pretty good hook. The ones I have remaining all have Dan Bailey's Fly Shop branded on the packs. Someone there might know. If you see anything you like now I highly recommend you buy lots because the way things come and go in fly gear and tying stuff, nothing lasts forever and the...

    Favorite affordable hook brand/series?

Not another cheap hook thread! Sorry, but I can't understand why anyone would want to take the most important link between an angler and a fish and not ensure that the link between the two is as good as possible. Now, I own a fly shop so I'll admit I want to sell good stuff. I won't be bothered...

    Bring Back the Hook Keeper!

No. My fishing now is pretty much lakes and chironomids under indicators. I do fish shorter leaders on the beach but off the end of either a ten or 14 foot clear polyleader.

    Bring Back the Hook Keeper!

I don't fish boobies. I won't get into what I do with them but it's not fishing.
