    Short 8 weight options

Glass makes a killer redfish rod. A lot more touch and accuracy in close quarters then ultra fast saltwater graphite. My 8’6” iconoglass is an absolute sniper with 15’ of fly line off the tip and a weighted crab. And it’s not gutless either. I could still clear a whole fly line with a nice...

Good polarized sunglasses in the $50 range?

I actually take a second pair of sunglasses and wrap the frames with lead tape so I can build the muscles needed to perform at a high level when it counts the most. I started with one hour when I was weak and feeble and now I can go 12 hours or more. A lot of people don’t put in the work to be...

    floating line question

Definitely clean your line regardless of what you do, I just use warm water on a towel, pinch around the line as you strip it off, maybe do the last 15’ a few times. Then I use the same towel with some mucillen on it (the green stuff) reel it back on the reel using the same technique. Once again...

    What's in your vise?

Is that pheasant hackle? I really like that one and I’m sure the cutts agree

    What is your Grand Slam?

On the NF stilly a few years ago I netted rainbows, sea run cutts, a bull, a coho, pinks and a wild summer steelhead in one session. Easily my best slam.

    I just had to.

Well done, my 896 has been repaired a few times in the last 6 years, most recently about a year ago maybe a little longer when they rebuilt my bottom section and I got all new cork and reel seat. So now all 4 sections are fresh. Moral of the story: Don’t let people use your XP’s 😂

    I just had to.

One of the best! I’ve had my 896 for 15 years or so, it’s caught a lot of fish. What reel are you running?

    Yellow sally?

i haven’t ever found trout to be really selective about yellow sally. But your destination may prove different. I carry some more realistic patterns tied slim and small like the naturals but also carry some more aggressive patterns like yellow micro chubbies. Yellow sally often overlap with...

    Nymph boxes

That’s a very valid point. I think I’ll go with two of the regular version. One for stones and the other for… the others. Thanks for the offer, that’s very generous. Lost creek might be the ticket.

    Nymph boxes

The tacky 2x looks good. Is the magnetic closure trustworthy? I have some cheap swing leaf boxes for lakes and the smaller tungsten flies like chironomids wiggle out of the slotted foam a lot. The tacky boxes seem legit.

    Nymph boxes

I need a new fly box for storing nymphs only. What are you guys liking for beadhead nymphs these days? Thanks in advance.

    Deals at online Retailers

STP has a lot of solid, cheap trout patterns by the dozen if you want to fill out your boxes. For example the yellowstoner chubby by MFC is a great fly and you can get a dozen for $10. I got my order last week and everything is tip top.

NFR Possible Lower Latitude Auroras this weekend

So you’re saying that was neither the eye of Sauron nor a galactic butthole? These were the only theories we were working with last night while sitting with some 13 year olds.

NFR Possible Lower Latitude Auroras this weekend

Here’s some obligatory photos to prove I was there. The cell phone camera did a good job of enhancing the colors but what it didn’t do unfortunately was pick up the brilliance of the mountain, in fact it made it disappear like some sort of magic trick. But with the naked eye I could see...

NFR Possible Lower Latitude Auroras this weekend

Can someone explain to me what I was watching last night when things really got started? There was a hole in the sky directly above us atop our little mountain in Cicero from which light swirled and radiated in all directions before fanning out and sweeping due East directly at Whitehorse...

NFR Possible Lower Latitude Auroras this weekend
