What's your favorite mono running line & why?

I also two finger pinch, definitely thought about tape I might try that if it’s a problem but realistically I only had to think about it in the beginning probably the same as I did when I first transitioned to mono from coated lines. I could definitely feel the sensitivity even with a lot of...

What's your favorite mono running line & why?

I just returned from finally giving the Hydrofloat 50# a go. My first impression is that it is thinner and more slippery then the 40# mono I’ve been using for a decade. I have to be a little more conscious while stripping and pinching to the cork. It never slipped while casting but I did fumble...

    Non-Fly SRC & Coho Lures

I never tried a spinnerbait I skipped right to a buzz bait but I could imagine it would probably be just as deadly. The whistle of the blade spinning when a coho leaps is legendary. When I made my very first cast with a buzz bait in saltwater and watched the bubble trail and spraying water as I...

    Non-Fly SRC & Coho Lures

I fished a baby spook and a small Pop R quite a bit for SRC and never had too much success but I do remember a nice bull trout on the spook that ate it like 5 times before I finally hooked the damn thing, but one fall the Zara spook was pretty deadly for coho, I can still picture coho leaping...

Post your first fish of 2025 here

Been busy and have had to back burner fishing for too long to take care of obligations that aren’t nearly as much fun. Snuck out and made my first casts of 2025 recently. 3rd cast of 2025 pictured below. The next fish was on my 4th cast. I’m looking forward to more of this until mid April.

    Sauk/Skagit open for CnR 2/1

I’m looking forward to once again testing my bosses patience for the next couple of months while I get after it.

    Music on the water

I love listening to music in the drift boat with a quality Bluetooth speaker. Fishing, rowing, talking shit and laughing with your buddies with the right soundtrack on a summer day is absolutely legit. It’s not something I always have done but I love it now. Can’t be too loud that you can’t talk...

What's your favorite mono running line & why?

Amazon. It took some serious sifting through the weeds to find it but I eventually did. I couldn’t find it anywhere else in 50#.

    Non-Fly SRC & Coho Lures

An all silver kastmaster spoon with a small strip of red or blue reflective tape on it was my number one SRC lure as a kid and teenager at the family beach property. Jig it around and fish it erratically especially at the end of the retrieve. Crocodiles work pretty good too and I’ve done well on...

    Starter Two-Handed set up?

That’s a slick idea filling the reel with the fatter fly line instead of all that mono. Totally get it! Does that make the fly line the backing? Is that a way of measuring the scrap with a good fish? “It ripped off drag until the fly line got wet” LOL

    Starter Two-Handed set up?

Get a skagit head, don’t overthink it. They work great, are easy to get the hang of and are, in my opinion, the most effective fishing tool in winter conditions. You can sort it out later if you wish to continue down the rabbit hole and branch out into lines that are more lively and enjoyable to...

    Klamath River Tribs

The Klamath is a special place, I’d love to go back and swing that big water again. The one time I was there I did not get to venture too far upriver since some fires had the road closed so other then the very lower river I didn’t get to see much of it. I’d love to go back.

    Non-Fly Bead size/color...

I believe size and color do matter for steelhead no matter what presentation you’re talking about, gear, fly, bead or spoon. Here’s why: Every steelhead seems to have a bite radius, meaning an area around them to which they will react to a given lure or fly by biting it as it drifts by. A lot...

    Wanted Redfish lines - cold water - 8 & 10 wt

The redfish line is what you want. I definitely preferred it for reds, it loads better with a short line which is most of the casting you are likely to do anyways. But some people like that grand slam a lot too. They are both a warm water line that I have but feel free to PM me and we can work...

    Wanted Redfish lines - cold water - 8 & 10 wt

I’ll check my stash I know I have a couple SA amplitude smooth saltwater lines in 8wt, 2 redfish and 1 grand slam (or other way around can’t remember) but all 3 might be warm water. If I have one in cold you can borrow it or if you want to try the warm water that’s fine too. I won’t be using...

SFR Legit PNW Hurricane on the way

Great. I’m not in the mood for this right now 😂 hopefully the stilly valley doesn’t get hammered by too much wind. I have a bunch of big trees that are on my radar for being “problematic” in the right storm. I’d rather this isn’t that storm.

What's your favorite mono running line & why?

I found some of the hydro float 50#, I’m excited to try it out after a decade or more of big game solar collector. I like the idea of no stretch with long casts on big water. If it’s a bust it was $14 which in 2024 dollars is basically free.

Another Competitor in the Single Man Raft World

I like it a lot. Definitely intrigued, I’d be stoked to row one for a day and see how she fishes

    Spinning Reels

I agree the Ceymar is a great reel for the ridiculous low price point but that drag can only take so many chromers before it’s totally shot. I have 4 in the graveyard and all of them came with no warning, working perfectly well one minute and then done the next, all 4 times with a fish on and...
