    Non-Fly Mooching?

That rod is pretty sweet. If the reel you have doesn't work out you could put a wooden Peetz reel on it and you'd have a mooching outfit and fish bonker all in one lol.

    NOF 2022

For those interested in numbers, did anyone notice the changes in historical run size for PS chinook between NOF 2021 and NOF 2022? The PS chinook wild run size 10 year average prior to ESA listing increased by 75% (36,637 to 64,236), and recent 10 year average increased by 43% (27,908 to...

    2022 Garden Thread

I saw some tubs at my local Home Depot this weekend. I didn't check them out and can't speak to quality.

Mine seem to be doing OK. They were up during the cold snap and I didn't do anything to protect them. Planted peas, snap and shelling, and mesculin mix today.

    Smelt

I did the dip thing around 2013 or so and did well. The activity is very fun but I thought the fish were just ok. Frying them up until they were crisp and almost like fish French fries was the best IMO. I have heard salt water smelt are much better and have always wanted to try them, but...

    NOF 2022

I reviewed the numbers more last night and came to the same conclusion as your speculation on the difference in total numbers. I thought it was poorly communicated in the presentation and it becomes confusing when the agency switches between "fall chinook forecasts" and "Puget sound chinook"...

    NOF 2022

Well that was a fun breakout room in the PS rec. today. One thing that I noticed is that WDFW repeatedly stated 224,000 chinook were coming back this year, roughly 25K of which were wild. The NW Sportsman article repeats that info. However, the final chinook forecast spreadsheet posted to...

    Ebelskiver recipe

I've made them very similar to Mossback's recipe and they turn out great. Below is another recipe that doesn't separate the eggs. Still good, but I think the final product is a bit denser than the above and I prefer lighter.

Thank you. I planted a cover crop mix and it was definitely some kind of a grass type plant that kept growing back. I will look at trying the suggestions this coming year.

For those who do cover crops, how do you keep the crop from sprouting back up after turning it over? I did a cover crop a few winters ago and then turned over around this time, but then had to deal with shoots from the cover crop coming up all spring. Maybe I didn't bury it deep enough when I...

    SRC We Know So Little

The most interesting thing I remember reading about SRC was from some diet study that I want to say found a good percentage of items consumed by SRC included clam necks??! I might be remembering the study wrong, but ever since reading that I've always envisioned SRC swimming around and nipping...

    Drift Fishing

Assuming there are fish around is any steelhead fishing really all that difficult? I mean once you get past learning how to cast, not snag up constantly, etc. they are pretty easy fish to hook if they are present.

Sounds similar to a lot of Puget Sound chinook stocks.

    Show me your bass

I visited Minnesota as a teenager. Basically explored a loop from Brainerd to Ely to Duluth. It was different than the NW, but a very cool area. I fished a lake in Brainerd and the kids working in the lake boathouse (who were about my same age at the time) sold me some live 4-6" long minnows...

    Drift Fishing

They were bouncing betties. I think Luhr Jensen sold them. Never tried them. They looked goofy and seemed too expensive compared to pencil lead. Did you try them Rob? Why did they suck? I started out fishing nothing but lead but eventually moved to using slinkies when fishing plastic...
