    New Opportunity?

Are you hearing of shad migrating through the lake for spawning? Or becoming full time resident?

My understanding is that truly albino deer will have pink eyes, nose, etc. No pigment whatsoever. Piebald deer have varying degrees of white on their bodies. It looks like both of the deer above are piebald. Long Rod's has some brown coloration on the tail and back legs (or is that just the...

    2023 Garden Thread

I have snap peas and garlic that appear to be doing well so far. I finished building two new raised beds that add considerable space to what I had previously. I plan to plant them this weekend. Maybe I will take some pics, though most likely not lol.

Review the post-season reports on the WDFW website. You can find them by searching publications. There is lots of interesting information there. The most recent post-season winter report I could find is for 2021 and it has a summary of total encounters for each A10 season going back to 2007...

I know your post about ratio is tongue in cheek, and I agree that there can be undersized fish in A10. I looked back at the 2014 post-season report and the ratio of non-keepers to keepers was about 10:1 for a season that ran mid-winter. The 2014 summer ratio non-keepers/keepers was 3:1. I...

    2023 Skagit/Sauk season is a go

Yes, I understand using a 5 day a week season to extend season length. If that is the reason the WDFW should state that. If WDFW wants a built in pause to crunch numbers they should state that. If the season is 5 days per week because that was all that was on NMFS's table to approve for this...

I believe your numbers also show a higher chinook kept per angler day in the winter than summer. Is it enough to overcome the higher total numbers generated by summer fisheries? Maybe not, but I can see why anglers push for winter seasons. The fish are actively feeding and generally more...

    2023 Skagit/Sauk season is a go

I am glad it is opening. I found the WDFW comment regarding the 5 day per week opening interesting: "The two day per week closure is a conservation measure to provide steelhead some daylight hours without fishing effort for spawning activities." That is the first time I recall reading...

Took the wife for a walk at Golden Gardens today. Beautiful day. At the boat launch fishing pier saw a large school of what appeared to be mature, spawner herring. Curious as to where they will end up.

    Wind Forecast Question

I don't know that I've found either to be more accurate. What I have resorted to doing is checking NOAA's NDBC buoy data the morning of a trip to see whether it is consistent with the forecast. I've avoided a couple unpleasant surprises since I started this routine.

    Proposed Coastal Steelhead Rules

I didn't attend the townhall last night. Do I understand it correctly that the Quinault tribe dictated to the State that the entire Chehalis system was to close after December 16th? Meanwhile, the Quinault tribe intends to net the Quinault River for 56 days and Queets for 36 days when there is...

    Area 9 Opener

I saw that. I also think I misread your prior post as I thought you were saying the quota would be potentially met after the first 3 day opener that was just held this past week. I agree it will be interesting to see what drops after this coming week. Better tides vs. potential decline in...

    Area 9 Opener

I'm curious as to why you would say this. By my math the publicly available numbers show a catch of 0.3 fish per angler in Area 9 over the initial 3 days. The first 3 days of 2021 season had a catch of .296 fish per angler, with higher total participation and catch in 2021. The 2021 season...

    Got some whacked fish stories?

I lived in NJ and was an active reader of the site this story came from. I remember the post and agree it was the best of the bunch. There were a lot of funny stories on that thread.
