My favorite Steven Wright riff: When asked by a border crossing agent if he has any firearms, he responded: What do you need?

I'm looking for suggestions for roof racks that mount to (pre-installed) t-tracks.

    WTF? (Deschutes March Brown hatch)

I recently fished the Deschutes during a pretty big March Brown hatch with little success. Despite the number of naturals floating by, the fish weren't interested. I tried again a few days later. The hatch was much lighter, but still no takers. I did see a few good-sized 'bows breaching like...

Why is it that when climate change comes up politicians say "I'm not a scientist", yet when womens' health is discussed they speak as thought they're all gynecologists?

Wisdom from the ages: "It is only when a mosquito lands on your testicles that you realize there is always a way to solve problems without using violence."

    Yakima walk and wade advice

I've said it before but it bears repeating: If you can fall in love with the fishing then you'll never be disappointed. The catching will come!

    Yakima walk and wade advice

Where are you fishing? The canyon offers the best opportunity for varied bank access and wading. The Cle Elum area offers some opportunity to walk the river and get back to the starting point without heroic measures or extensive bushwacking. I echo the sentiments above about tie on the water...

Fly Fishing Film Festival - Hood River

I was really inspired by Wading for Change - about the Texas transplant to Jackson Hole. The 'star' started a program to introduce fly fishing to kids who might never otherwise be exposed to it. All of them were a nice antidote to the late-winter blahs. Fish Porn at its best!

    2 flies

If I'm nymphing on the Yak or the Deschutes, my typical rig is a well weighted Pat's rubberlegs, with a dropper matching one of the bugs du jour. (This could be a caddis pupa, a mayfly or a midge. My usual go-to is a pheasant tail, copper John, prince or zebra midge.) On lakes I still use 2...

    Corned Beef

I remember going into a (so-called) deli in the PNW and asking if the corned beef was lean. The guy behind the counter (who clearly didn't grow up eating deli) said, very enthusiastically: Yes! Very lean! Who the hell likes lean corned beef? I suppose it could have been worse. He could have...

I've often thought how cool it could be for a tech savvy newbie to fake an invoice for a costly Board Stretcher from a local tool supplier made out to his or her employer and then submitting it for reimbursement. Turnabout is fair play, no?

    Spotted my first cougar…

Several years back my wife and I took a detour onto one of the FS roads in Chinook Pass for a picnic lunch. On the way back out to the highway we encountered a mountain lion on a narrow section of road. The steep banks on either side channeled the cat and gave us the chance to follow it for...

    Small Personal Craft for Rivers

I'LL BE DIPPED! about 6 months back I went to their website to search for replacement parts and it was as though the raft side never happened. I stand corrected! Golly... maybe everything we read on the interwebs isn't true!

    Small Personal Craft for Rivers

I have an old Buck's that I've fished for about 10 years. I keep the 'toons deflated. It's not that difficult or time-consuming to inflate each time. I put some pipe insulation on the bottom frame members to protect my car roof. I was able to plop it on my rooftop and cinch it to the roof racks...
