    Merrill Lake update

The trail is established-ish. I carried a float tube and a couple of rods. Totally doable

    Merrill Lake update

I fished it May 25th, and hiked a float tube down to the lake. There were two other people in float tubes, and when I finished there was an extended family swimming and picnicking at the ramp. I didn't see any signs about it being closed to fishing. There is room for two or three cars at the...

    Hostile Fisheries

I think it's a difference between what's hard for everyone (musky, steelhead on the swing) and what's hard for me. The Met is at the top of that list. And I'll be there in two weeks. Some of those above are also in the "old days" category. East used to be a fantastic fishery. I loved the old...

    Merrill Lake update

The road is totally washed out, but there is a trail that runs down from the gate. The ramp area is fine (although I never saw it before, so can't compare). I was down there maybe a month ago. Not much in either the hatch or fish department, though.

    Got any bird pics?

no pictures, but there were a couple of barred owls hooting at each other while I was walking the dog the other night. Saw one swoop into a tree above me, then the other landed by it, which led to a bunch of screeching and chasing. It was pretty cool.

I’ll fish a clam fly with rabbit and a chenille tail. This adds a couple of turns of eggstacy to add an egg sac. Didn’t like it in the water though, too bright.

I’d like to see someone try to break that one piece tuna tamer. Guess I’ll give it a go in a couple of weeks

Have you folks been running squid or baitfish flies, and if squid what do you use/tie? I'm thinking of tying up some squid for the 13th.

Extra pulley DB anchor systems? Good, bad, meh?

I use a petzl rescue pulley and like it for the heavier anchor.

Old fishermen w// bad eyes, do you prefer polarized readers or a separate pair of readers?

I wear progressives on the daily, and my sunglasses are progressive as well. I have no problem walking/wading, but sometimes the fly is just too small, the light is too poor, or my hands are too cold. So, what I do, is I have a fly box that has a leaf in the middle for holding pre-tied flies and...

    Utter failure. I suck.

I never thought I’d be so invested in another guy’s carb issues. Nothing to offer but hope you figure it out.
