Yeah I honestly don't get it. It's so simple to fight these fish without lifting high, but for some reason it's near impossible to keep fly folks from doing it. Too much trout fishing in their blood I suppose.

Merino's is definitely the move. Any fish I bring home over the season I take to Merino's. They do such a great job and my time is just worth more to me than what they charge.

I've seen waaaaaay more fish lost when hooked on troll gear with large hooks than I've ever seen on small hooks when fishing live bait. Like not even close. Fish lost when fishing bait almost exclusively come from deep hooked fish when people don't notice the bite, or hook set fish that are...

Nice work guys. The ocean has not been particularly kind the last few days. As much as I love doing the fly trips, I was not too heartbroken to have to hop over to the big boat for a few days.

I've fished nothing but the same orange squid I fished all of last season, and I have caught plenty of tuna. This is only casting when stopped, as I am driving the boat when trolling. When on the troll, well, most here know my thoughts on this, even if nobody believes me :)

My bad.... HW is humpback whale. GH is just the Greys Harbor channel buoy. It just marks the start of the channel for crossing the bar. Out here it's just commonly referred to as the GH....but I glossed over the fact that not everyone is "out here" lol

That was a fun day for sure! I did manage three birthday fish, but only two came on the fly. Still, not gonna complain. The number of birds is not atypical, though typically we see that a bit later in the year, and not every year in great numbers. There's been a ton of birds this year but...

I have one last salmon trip at the end of the month, kind of a special situation trip, but for all intents and purposes today marked the end of my salmon season. Headed offshore Friday. I can't wait for tuna fishing, but it was a pretty damned fun salmon/jack mackerel season.
