    Super Secret Spring Creek

Super secret spots are a funny thing. Years ago I had one along a very busy road and a turn out barely big enough for my truck. It had a so so path down to the water no signs of a bait fisherman having been there. It's a deep slow pool with a bit of an eddy. There were a few foot prints and...

    NFR What Are You Reading

Buzzy in that you like Sanford , Johathan Kellerman will probably be right in your wheel house too. His wife and son are both good writers and kind of in the same style. Just started his "Bad Love". Dave

    No Harm no Foul

I am not questioning your ethics as I for the most part agree. I am just curious what people think in general. Personally I opt not to fish but it is a personal decision and not something I would expect anyone else to endorse. Is it "wrong" to fish for these fish? No not at all It is just...

    Durable Waders

Does anyone have any experience with Allan waders or maybe Allen? The price seems to be reasonable and what I looked at seemed OK.. Dave

    Wading Boot Recommendation

I seriously doubt that a single sole configuration will cover all situations so it is a compromise you have to shoot for. In that I fish moderate temps and conditions I find studded felts are the way to go. I don't hike long distances over rougher Terraine nor do I hike through a lot of mud...

    No Harm no Foul

This is a bit of curiosity and not intended to be contentious by any means. If a fishery is recognized as being threatened but yet open to fish will you fish the run? Or if the fish IE steelhead are greatly stressed through out their range but certain rivers allow a fishery that claims...

    NFR College Football 2022

Now that these players are getting payed do they get to keep their scholarships? I think it should be one or the other but not both. A scholarship is worth some where around $50 thou or more depending on school. That is per year. tuition, books, room and board, medical and dental, plus...

    2023 Skagit/Sauk season is a go

Smalma and Salmo-g, You both supplied alot of the answers I have been curious about. I didn't know how to word my posts to get the response I desired so I came through the back door so to speak. Sometimes being mildly controversial and remaining open minded will get one to the finish line...

    2023 Skagit/Sauk season is a go

Curt, Thank-you lor the added details. So here is a question regarding mortality of juveniles out migration. How much of a factor is the loss of kelp and eel grass along the shore line? Dave

    2023 Skagit/Sauk season is a go

OK I I misunderstood the NMFS policy, agreement but the fact remains there are not many fish returning and that is my overall point. Are 5000 fish even close to capacity for the Sauk and Skagit systems combined? Shouldn't that be the driving escapement goals? Dave

    2023 Skagit/Sauk season is a go

And so what is the tribes take on a nearly non-existent run that probably no one should be targeting. If it is half then that leaves what 2500 fish and C& R mortality and over stressed fish reduced to very poor spawning results leaves what maybe 2000 fish at the very best. This is pathetic...

    Lake leaders when pulling wets.

I keep it verry simple and easy. I start off with a 9 foot 2X tapered leader and then add 18 inches of 3X. If I want to go smaller I cut back to 12 inches and add 18 inches of 4X to the shortened 3X. I rarely go lighter than 3X and will often stay at a 2X leader as I fish deep generally and...

    Cold weather layering?

Basic layering in winter. Select glass and drop in 4 ice cubes. Add Canadian whiskey to cover ice cubes. A touch of water to open it up a bit. Retire to a comfortable chair and look out the window at the snow. Comfy and warm. Dave

    Guided float recommendation?

You might consider the Cowlitz for some steelhead , though they most likely will be hatchery fish. But that is not all bad! Dave
