The beginning of the end (of Summer)

Glad you got out, great memories at those lakes you fished and nice tie with the goat fur. There are lakes in that area with much bigger brookies, close to where your were, but many less fish.

    Mad River Canoe for free

Last chance before she goes to the landfill. Will bring back to Seattle for a few buck for gas, but will also include two paddles. Has a cold crack that needs to be fixed and will take some work to get back in the water. Includes all hardware and parts as well as some fiberglass and resin...

Project Canoe, 16 foot Mad River Explorer, Free if you pick up.

16 foot Mad River Royalex Canoe and Paddles. This boat has quite a history, has been down the Yakima more times than I can count, sunk once right where Swauk Creek enters and wrapped around a small island in Winchester Wasteway, recovered and fixed twice by me. It is currently in pieces here in...

    NFR What Are You Reading

I'm reading The Sea Runners, finally, given to me by my son in 2019. Good yarn and writing from Ivan Doig. Love WWII Naval stuff so good to see some suggestions here. My other book is Atlas of the Heart, Brene' Brown. Just your basic 67 year old guy getting in touch with my emotions...

    the things kids say..

Had a friend, another band teacher, who told me about a kid who asked to go to the bathroom during a pretty serious rehearsal. Answer is no and they all keep working. Ten minutes late hand is up again, and this time the student says, "Mr. W, the brown bear is peeking his nose out of the...

    Crane Prairie advice needed

I would try Quinn River channel. Nice fish right off where you launch. Not a secret. I had a great evening there bass fishing topwater a few years ago in the bay by the resort. Warm and shallow, not good trout water, but lots of medium sized bass that evening.

    Catfish

Channel Cats are a fairly common bycatch on Brownlee and the other Snake Impoundments. Buggers seem to work pretty well. Have yet to catch one when fishing topwater. I've heard of some places they gang up in shallow water, but have yet to find a big concentration of them.

    GigBob Modification Ideas

I made a motor mount out of PVC pipe that straps on the back of mine. Use a little electric motor, that makes the long trips on reservoirs much shorter. Also have a anchor mount back there on a piece of plywood. A plywood mount in front holds my Garmin. I would post pics, but they are...

    Favorite WA Stillwater Region?

That was a favorite of mine back when it had water. For some reason you could catch a bunch there on dries almost any day. Some nice fish too, until the goldfish got thick in there.

Slow strip VS bobber or fishing naked?

Try getting a two rod endorsement and do a little of both. If you move real slow in a tube the indicator rig will still work and you can cast and strip. If the bobber keeps going down you just start using it full time.

Flying Ants - the flies you don't need until you do.

It's happened to me twice lately Ira. That time on Anthony, it was pretty much every cast. The had just stocked "trophies" and they seemed to be milling in one area, so cast, let sink, set hook, release, repeat. The other time was fishing a friend's private pond. about 1/2 acre stocked...

Flying Ants - the flies you don't need until you do.

Hit a huge one on Anthony lake in NEO one warm June day. Ants all over my tube, crawling down my back, on almost every square foot of water. The brookies had ants coming out their gills, but the rainbows, planted earlier that week, weren't rising. All fish would take a Carey about the...

NFR How's the housing market where you live?

Been crazy out there since COVID. I sold a home in Richland WA, right after I retired, summer of 2020, did well, but should have waited. Now just divorced and taking care of my 99 year old dad in the house I grew up in that he bought in 1958 for 26,000. We are getting ready to sell our...

    What are you listening to?

Awesome!!! Great to hear! No pitch correction here. Just great musicians! As the "Low Brass Players Creedo" from the Chicago Symphony's sections said: "BLOW THE FUCKIN SHIT OUT OF IT AND DON'T GIVE AN INCH!"
