Ice fog fishing on a N. central WA lake 10/30/2025

I've come full circle and am now back to using a float tube for lake fishing, for all the same reasons. I upgraded from a float tube to a really nice Outcast Pac800 pontoon, which I loved, but couldn't get used to propelling it with fins and using the oars occupied my hands such that I missed a...

    What's in your vise?

Is that a Doc Spratley variation? Looks like it would slay on Opening Day stockers!

For knife-making and other DIY projects, I've bought a lot of steel from Online Metals: https://www.onlinemetals.com/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=6502026653&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhIzn_afWkAMVxR-tBh3SYwLcEAAYASAAEgIPGPD_BwE You can sort by size, shape, alloy etc... they usually have what I need...

Large Classic Salmon Flies Framed poster

That’s really cool. What are the framed dimensions? Edit: was asking the price but then saw the category it’s listed in. If I were closer I’d take it!

    A heater for small spaces

Do you need to worry about CO buildup, using it in an enclosed space? Or maybe you already have a CO detector in the Casita?

    Storing all those fly rods

Also you can do a big inventory exercise once and document each and every rod in an excel spreadsheet. Then you can look in the file and see exactly what you have. I ended up doing that because I got to the point that I couldn’t keep a mental inventory anymore, especially for reels, extra...

    High End Coolers vs. E-Coolers

I had a tough battle with a squirrel that took up residence in the engine bay of my truck this summer. I would clean out his nests and he would rebuild them, and he was big enough to rob the peanut butter off the traps without getting caught. Finally after remembering Ive’s advice about...

    Official Beach Rod Thread

I just saw an XP 691 on the auction site for a cool $588 plus $35 shipping. It's one of the ones in Japan, so I don't know if one would have to pay a tariff in addition.

Mine is a two piece as well. It was the first or second rod I built myself, probably around 1992 or so. And my first "nice" fly rod ever. I'll go check that one out. For $50 it might be worth getting just to "have". Like I need another rod... Edit: it's up to $85 now. It looks like a...

    PNW Local fly reel manufacturers?

You're right, it was Redmond! I think I was conflating them with the whole Sage / Redington / Farbank roll up. I'm not sure if Sage actually acquired them, but I know Waterworks had a reel design licensed to be built by Sage at some point. And Waterworks (Boise ID) bought Lamson in 1998.

    PNW Local fly reel manufacturers?

Lamson used to be on Bainbridge Island but with the Waterworks acquisition I don’t think they make anything here anymore.

    Official Beach Rod Thread

I’ve got @adamcu280 ’s Predator now and would agree it’s a bit stiff and more tiring than some my other rods. (I bought it as a backup so I’m not complaining Adam 🙂). I’ve never tried the Vice. I did like the CPX 9664 S that predates them. The Sage TCX, now that’s a workout. Right now...
