Washington States Budget Slashes Result In Campground Closures / Reductions

Zero risk of slapping. And I've never taken you as one who would over-value anything, least of all a degree. But when I earn my PhD in Internet Behavior, I'll be expecting some respect!

Washington States Budget Slashes Result In Campground Closures / Reductions

Doncha' know? 3A is perfectly level, has direct water access, and the best view! I been paying attention to Travers for a while now, and he has this shit down solid!

    The Green ‘26

One of the most beautiful trout streams I've ever fished. I keep wanting to go back, but that long, long drive to the middle of nowhere discourages me. We were staying in Park City when it was suggested to us, and it was a 3 hour drive each way from there. I'm gonna' rationalize a trip there...

I learned it from my daughters when they were in high school in the 1990s.

NFR Queens are out and about

I set my trap out about a month and a half ago. Caught two queens a week or so ago. They be dead. This business of early season trapping of queens makes August and September so much better! I only caught 2 or 3 queens last year too, but still ended up with a nest in a post on my front porch...

Washington States Budget Slashes Result In Campground Closures / Reductions

I apologize for being less than crystal clear about the humorous intent of my earlier post. I have been reprimanded, thanks to you SNAGs (Sensitive New Age Guys) who reported my grossly insensitive behavior. I'd promise to do better next time, except that I forbid myself from making promises I...

Post your first fish of 2026 here 🤠

Had to think for a minute to remember if I've caught a first fish of 2026. Aha! Yes, I did. It was a steelhead, mint bright too. But in a world of "pics or it didn't happen," it may not have happened. Unlike most people, I'm not glued to my phone, and that goes double for my camera. When I...

    Stroke update April 25th

Oh, don't we know it! I've seen times when you couldn't stop talking. I'm just happy to see how well you have progress so far with your recovery. I look forward to seeing you at Mayfield. Most of us are a bunch of curious well wishers, but if you need to tell me to "buzz off" for a bit, I...

Washington States Budget Slashes Result In Campground Closures / Reductions

Billy, I've about had it with you! I just don't fvckin' get that some members are motivated to make reports about threads. What do we have here? Grown adults so thin skinned and sensitive that they have to go running to a moderator to report a post that they disagree with or it offends them...

Washington States Budget Slashes Result In Campground Closures / Reductions

I guess it really was that long ago that state and US Forest Service campgrounds were free to use. I recall going to Oregon, probably the early 80s and there was a fee to camp at the state park. I was shocked and dismayed. Didn't take long for WA to follow suit.

    Occupy Skagit, on steroids.

Steelhead management is little more than a nuisance to the Washington Department of Salmon. If they open a stream that has been closed, that's just more work. They're not looking for more work, just more revenue.

A River Runs Through It: 50-year anniversary (NY Times Musing)

I had that book in first edition. Loaned it to my sister-in-law, and she never returned it. Dang!

Have you seen or own these new waders?

Wow, you're an old fart. As a youth I only remember the scene where the rain made her blouse transparent, not the wader scene.

    Occupy Skagit, on steroids.

The money from the 1995 license should be tapped out now after 30 years. That money was spent of off-channel chum salmon spawning habitat projects. I think all the suitable sites were developed over 10 years ago. The rest of that money was spent on land purchases to benefit fish and wildlife...

    Occupy Skagit, on steroids.

All of the license and fee money deposited in the state General Fund gets appropriated back to WDFW - unless something has changed that I haven't heard about. WDFW gets all that license money that used to go directly to the former WDG along with GF money that has always supported the former...

    What Are You Eating?

Saturday night I took Mrs. Salmo out for a belated birthday dinner celebration. We went to a local Italian restaurant we discovered last fall. It's called Bacco Trattoria Italiano. They actually opened just when Covid hit, so it has taken a while for word of mouth to get the news around, but...

A River Runs Through It: 50-year anniversary (NY Times Musing)

DimeBrite beat me to it. The NYT has some of the best writers in the country, but one thing I notice about their environmental and outdoor related articles is that the writers don't seem to know diddly about the outdoors. I think they live in eleventy-storied apartments and view Central Park...

    Occupy Skagit, on steroids.

Not comparable. Under federal case law, we non-treaty anglers have no treaty fishing right. We have a privilege administered by the state.

    Occupy Skagit, on steroids.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from taking action, but two things here. First, Occupy Skagit knows the value of singular focus - never take your eye off the prize. Second, the Puyallup steelhead population has remained below the escapement goal for years, so there would be no steelhead season...

    Occupy Skagit, on steroids.

Life is not without risks. A life well lived may involve more risk. I'm 77 years old, and I don't have 10 or so spare years to wait around and see if WDFW is going to reopen the Skagit steelhead season. I witnessed their inaction last time around. That cost us 8 years of no season. I'm not...
