    Puget Sound

Many thanks for the tippet ring suggestion. I’ve long preferred knotless tapered leaders and get extended service from them by adding tippet sections as needed. That of course adds a salad snagging knot. Any suggestions on tippet ring brands/sizes for saltwater use around here?

    Free Fly Fishing Magazines

Magazines don’t qualify for media mail rates. I doubt you’ll find anything cheaper than the usps flat rate boxes if you’re dealing with a quantity of magazines.

The oldest rod you regularly use?

Sage SP 590-2. And it’s also is the rod I’d take on on a trip if I could only take one.

    Hook Defect?

jasmillo - thanks for the input, and for the offer (respectfully declined). I think your comment about tying imperfections is spot on. I expect it's 50/50 whether any imbalance from the eye offset is mitigated or aggravated by the many imperfections of my ties. Bambooflyguy - thanks, that is...

    Hook Defect?

I just opened a pack of Daiichi 2546 #2 saltwater hooks that I bought within the last year or two - found that all twenty hooks when viewed from above have the eye canted to the left a bit and thus don’t line up straight with the shank. Before putting time and materials into these hooks, I’m...

    Fishing the Miyawaki Beach Popper

After two beach visits this season and about an hour into the third fishing my usual Clousers but with no grabs to be had, I decided I had to do something different. First I briefly tried a squidy kind of thing but no interest shown to it either. I had been carrying around a couple of Miyawaki...

    Anna Maria Island Florida

Thanks much for the info, I’ll be looking into those resources. The family trip plan is now bumped from Christmas to the first week of April next year. Expect that’s a better time for fishing opportunities, so fine by me. Andy

    Anna Maria Island Florida

I may (or may not) be headed to Anna Maria Island around Christmas time on a family trip. I’d appreciate any input any of you might have on whether there are salt fly fishing opportunities in the area at that time of year, and if so details, resources, guides, etc. Thanks for any help you may...

    Spey on The Beach

I enjoy using a two hander from time to time in the salt, both for salmon and src just because it’s enjoyable and I can work on my spey casting in the only flowing water nearby me, the salt. Apart from that, the best advantage is no worries about the the people, dogs, whatever walking the beach...
