Fished the wind and rain, then the calm salad this am. One bump on the fly, that is all. Committed heresy and switched to bait. Went 1/4 with a solid 5 pounder. Only 2 other fish landed on the beach, both on bait.

So I was curious, as I was using an unweighted baitfish pattern the other day, and it was riding slightly sideways on the strip, but would settle correctly. I tied one up last night using the smallest of dumbell eyes...3/32 I believe. FYI they fit, albeit snugly, under a #5 fishskull helmet...

Maybe some bucktail or other more buoyant materials on top to get it to ride appropriately, and replace white bucktail with synthetic?

Definitely a bit more complicated, but a fly in the water catches fish, not one in the air. Plenty of fish within 40-50 ft (especially in the early am), but it's hard not to want to be a hero and huck it 80+ ft. minimize the false casting and keep that fly in the water. You will also miss...

Good weekend for me. Fished Fri/Sat and early AM Sunday. Limit on friday within an hour. Limit on Saturday after another rod mishap delayed my return to the beach. 3 cookie cutter fish in the 3ish pound range, and this beast that I was sure was a king until he showed up on the beach...

Must have got stuck on the low tide...and must have been a good feast, because there were three of them in a small pool. This is the largest, which was maybe 15 inches.No signs of foul play.
