    Freedom to Roam

Do you know if in a typical tort case a landowner would have to prove damages to successfully sue? The article I was reading made it sound like many activities like hunting and fishing were typically allowed on private land even when the trespassers were taken to court.

    Freedom to Roam

Interestingly after doing some further research, in many states Oregon included I'm not sure about Washington going on private property that is not properly marked or fenced is not considered a crime, although its probably not worth pushing ones luck with a landowner who doesn't read legal code...

I think he might be right actually, I found this article in the Atlantic talking about how trespassing laws only became ubiquitous post civil war

    Freedom to Roam

From what I've read the beach law is considered an example of freedom to roam, this is what Oregon.gov says about it "The bills mimicked a Texas law that recognized the public's continued use of private beach land as a permanent right. Commonly known as the Beach Bill, it established a permanent...

    Freedom to Roam

I guess a good follow-up question for the people who would oppose more extensive freedom-to-roam laws is do you think that current ones should be removed? Such as Oregon beach bill or our stream access? If the downsides of more access outweigh the benefits in your mind do you think that also...

    Freedom to Roam

Could you expand more? What are your concerns? what do you think would have to be changed to enact it, do you think our current stream access/beach access laws are okay or also a shit show?

    Freedom to Roam

I was reading about freedom to roam laws recently I forget where but here is the Wikipedia article on it. They are apparently very common in Europe and basically allow people to move through private land as long as they follow what are basically leave no trace principles, they all vary in the...

    What's in your vise?

Any chance you could make a step-by-step tutorial for the legs/front area on this fly? I feel like whenever I try tying caddis pupa I can't get them to look buggy in the right way.

    Ells hatchery

I worked a couple of years in a lab that worked with trout and salmon and even though we had nowhere near as many fish as a hatchery produces cleaning was no joke. It's all well and good to say that changing the raceway design would be helpful for the fish but when I think about the easiest...

    non slip loop knot..

I'll use a loop knot for nymphs if I'm fishing something like a perdigon and want to get deep fast, with the loop knot the fly will orientate in the water to have the least drag and descend quickly, without one the fly seems like at stays more horizontal and takes longer to sink. Probably not a...

Messing around with new camera, checking out that Chinese Spy Balloon, couldn't believe what I saw!

According to the defense department not much. "Currently, we assess that this balloon has limited additive value from an intelligence collective collection perspective," I'm not sure why people are talking about this so much besides ooh china scary...

    “ gun control “

I'm not against people being conservative nor think I'm all knowing I haven't been weighing in on the original purpose of the thread because I know I don't know enough about the topic, but when he started talking about how if the constitution were ever amended people should rise up against the...

    “ gun control “

I know I'm pretty new to this forum so maybe I need to learn more about him but is Rob Allen just like an elaborate prank? some kind of social experiment? He talks like someone who would be called a fed in younger circles

    “ gun control “

Why do you worship these old dead white guys? They made a system that gave power to (some of) the people for a reason and for all you claim to respect them you ignore the core tenets of our democracy.

    What's in your vise?

Not sure how you guys get such nice photos, but here's a little caddis I tied inspired by James Lund's work. The wings could have been better symmetry-wise, and I'm not sure how well it'll cast, but it was a fun tie.

    Broodstock hatcheries/ epigenetics

This probably wont give you the fullest answer you could be looking for but this study https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0257407#ack by Mike Blouin at OSU talks about genetic changes accrued in hatchery fish. Also I haven't looked into it much but over in Europe...

Fishing related adventures you are looking forward to in 2023...

Hopefully explore lots and lots of thin blue lines in the Oregon cascades. I might try to drive up and catch a couple of pinks too, figure I might as well try it even if they get a bad rap

"This Lake's Fisheries are Managed Stupidly"

There are a lot of ways you could make those kinds of contacts, if you just make an effort to go to fisheries-related events and conferences you can pretty quickly make connections with people working in the DFWs, who can refer you to managers or may have the answers themselves. For instance...

    whoa...

I'd like to throw in that even though phytoestrogen has the word estrogen in it, it does not actually have the effect of estrogen on the body, the chemical compounds are just structured similarly. This is a pretty common piece of misinformation started by some YouTubers who are afraid of tofu.
